Re: What the Fark 2: That Was... Interesting.

I'm shocked. I assumed it was BU or UMass.

Well apparently the kid used to be at UMass and got arrested twice and expelled, and ended up at UConn (see a bunch of the links in the comments).

Why yes, he's from Long Island, how did you know?

For all the progress they've made China is an absolute shit-show across the board. Pollution, corruption, government, crime, yes even education, they've brilliantly created a facade but their core is still royally in trouble and they will eventually collapse upon themselves.

I keep thinking that; same with Russia, but yet they still churn....

Playboy: Now You Can Only Read the Articles

Not exactly sure where to put this, but figured this would be a good one since they're abandoning the thing that made them, them.

My favorite from the comments:

George Smith Phoenix 21 minutes ago

Men from past generations told their wife "I read it for the articles"...and it was a running joke. Today's PC, limp-wristed generation of males would actually prefer to read the articles, or even look at dot-art, rather than see nude women. Men aren't men anymore, and this country is a mere shadow of its former self in so many ways. Very sad.

I'm somewhat confused. This dude has the internet, but apparently does not know how to use it.

Someone should tell him they got them there nekkid girls in them fancy motion pictures now. I heard some of 'em are even talkies!!!

Playboy's thing, was that it was presented as tasteful, and now they leave a bit of mystery in the photos. That's how I'm guessing they are thinking.

Playboy's thinking is that their circulation has dropped from a high of almost 7,000,000 copies printed each month to a little over 800,000. Meanwhile, magazines like Maxim and Esquire haven't seen nearly the drop in readership, taking on a more sophomoric, juvenile tone aimed at late teens and early 20-somethings. Playboy used to fill a hole between that Maxim/Esquire audience and the Penthouse/Hustler audience. Now that we have the internet, the tasteful nudes are everywhere, along with the hardcore stuff and things so hardcore you didn't even know it existed until this digital era. Playboy had to turn to their reliance upon actual article content, which, for anyone who ever had a subscription, could tell you that it was awfully repetitive in their perspective and subjects. Everything they had to offer became a complete bore - especially the women who were all a specific selection of archetypes and photoshopped to kingdom come.

And he's from Arizona? If I certain poster from that area hadn't already passed, I would swear it was him!

While it sounds weird, it makes sense. There's other places to go now, where there is much more content available, so who the hell would buy a magazine anymore. Hell, some tablets weigh less than a magazine and are easier to carry around. And with all the photoshopping and bottle blondes it's not like anything they had actually approached real anymore. I read in one of the articles they made their site PG, and its visitors skyrocketing, probably because being less NSFW made it easier to visit. Long story short, since they aren't really kings of the nudity game anymore and have no hope of catching up, might as well shift their focus.
