What next USCHO to ask all UND posters with Sioux in it to change their username?

Did you guys pick a new nickname yet? I can't seem to find any information regarding that.

Are you going back to Flickertails? Going to something generic like Wildcats?

And what are you referred to as now? Just North Dakota? I vote for the North Dakota North Dakotans.

I'm sad to see it go. The name, logo and jersey were probably my favorite in all of college hockey. It's a shame you guys have to settle for the generic ND logo now.
We are just North Dakota. State Law says we need a couple year cooling period before adopting a new one.

Re: What next USCHO to ask all UND posters with Sioux in it to change their username?

Funny part of the name change, the "Sioux" nickname will now be more popular than ever, and my guess is that you'll see even more of it at sporting events. Not to mention all the third-party bootleggers will now receive 100% of the profits from merchandise that bears the name and logo. The only ones that lost in this deal is the University along with its students, staff and fans.

Maybe we should require a name change of the NCAA to the P.C. Athletic Association. The word "national" is offensive to me because they don't have any regard for what most people in this nation want...

Best case scenario - one of the tribes in ND, signs a written agreement with the school for 100 year use of their name and you end up with the "ND Spirits" or "ND Stands with a Mascot." Worst case scenario, the lawyers get involved and something insane like "Rainbows" or "Unicorns" or "Glad Tidings" gets forced on the university.

And now taking the ice your University of North Dakota Warm and Fuzzy Non-threatening Gender and Race non-specific Persons or Things *screaming fans*...

You guys are far more expedient than we are. Miami only stoped selling Redskin apparel last Spring, 13 years after we became the RedChickens. Albeit there was no lawsuit involved in our case.

I do hope you end up with a far better nickname than us.

Time to raid the thrift shops for the Sioux gear!

Re: What next USCHO to ask all UND posters with Sioux in it to change their username?

I've always been outraged by the NCAA suddenly claiming they have authority over school's mascots & nicknames. I don't understand why the affected schools band together for a class action lawsuit against the NCAA? I'm sure they would have a very solid legal case.

NCAA is a club that colleges voluntarily join. To be members, they agree to abide by the rules. UND can always not participate in NCAA games or tournaments. No one is forcing them to.

Re: What next USCHO to ask all UND posters with Sioux in it to change their username?

Unless the nickname is somehow reinstated or a new nickname is instated before next season, I can't wait until UND visits Mariucci!

How will we go about filling in the words to this cheer?:
"Kill, Maim, Pillage, Burn!
Kill, Maim, Pillage, Burn, EAT BABIES!!
.....North.....Dakota babies????!!!"

BAHAHAHAHA

the irony of it all. Florida State Seminoles. Central Michigan Chippewas. Washington Redskins. Chicago Blackhawks.

There's no irony with the college teams. They have permission. North Dakota does not. You want to blame someone don't blame the NCAA, blame the Sioux Tribe that said no.

Florida State - Permission (FSU rewards them handsomely for their cooperation)

Central Michigan - Permission (tribe pledged their support)

North Dakota - No consensus permission, aka No Sioux for You

Miami - Administration decided a name change was in the best interest of the university, tribe signed off, bye bye redskins.

Not sure what happened at Eastern Michigan.

Not a big surprise. UND has asked all media to stop using the logo and Fighting Sioux nickname. As far as changing my username, I am preparing to do so, and will as soon as hell freezes over.

You tell 'em faninseattle. :D

According to wiki EMU decided to switch after a Michigan Department of Civil Rights report suggested that schools drop Native American logos and nicknames because they promote stereotypes.

The University of North Dakota sellers will be able to sell off their remaining inventory. In other words, one last chance to get a Fighting Sioux jersey / shirt / cap ...

Has anyone found someplace selling them cheaply? I've always liked their green jerseys.

Re: What next USCHO to ask all UND posters with Sioux in it to change their username?

I'm pretty sure Anthony Lapanta knows where to get them.

Wouldn't it show true support for the school you love to disassociate that offensive name from your user name?

Actually, UND had 50 to 60 years to come to an easy agreement with the tribes, but they were blindsided, and waited too long. They could have simply given the Tribes a few jugs of whiskey for their Pow Wow back in the thirties, and tricked them into giving up their name forever. After all, that's how the white man got the rest of the country.

FWIW, the two Sioux tribes have given UND their consent to use the name. Unfortunately, for both UND and the tribes, they have done so in a way that the NCAA does not recognize.

No, that's just an incredibly stupid idea. Please kill yourself as moronic ideas like yours will only serve to pollute the gene pool.
