What has disappeared since you were a kid

Re: What has disappeared since you were a kid

Neither. I'm just a smart drinker. Once you finish the night. Drink a glass of water for every drink you've had. Go until you think you can't possibly drink any more water.
When I finish a night, I can't find find my mouth, much less figure out how to poor water into it.

You don't even have to do that. Drink a liter of room-temp water (cold water will shock the system) and you're good.

Personal beef here: I remember when Christmas was the only holiday with decorations... Specifically, lights on a string...
I remember when no one decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving. There were no ornaments in the store in July. There were no decorations that did not pertain to the season at hand and these were muted. Every 'holiday' wasn't a decorating fiasco.

Columbus Day and other Monday holidays that were celebrated on a DATE, not on some arbitrarily picked Monday.
Veterans Day and Memorial Day were solemn days that celebrated the bravery of those who served, not drinking weekends.

Sundays as day of rest. No stores open. No availability of liquor/alcohol on them.

Holy crap - don't come to PA. Folks here put up flags, inflatable whatevers and lights for any "holiday" - official or commercial driven.

Some older posters may remember "Fizzies." A flavored tablet you dropped into a glass of water to turn it into a carbonated beverage. Who on God's earth thought THAT was a good idea? What you wound up with was cherry flavored Alka Seltzer. The stuff was horrible. I'm guessing the huge TV campaign to sell the stuff resulted in millions of first sales, but no followup sales. Bleah.

I remember a similar candy where the fizzy stuff was in the middle. You didn't drop them in drinks, you just ate them.

And what was the gum with the liquid center? Gushers, or something like that? I think Bubbalicious tried it, too, or maybe Bubble Yum. And then there was Gatorade Gum, which apparently tried to top Dubble Bubble with shortest taste span.

Well their website indicates they never completely went away so you probably have seen 'em. Their heyday was in the 50's and 60's. I'm guessing you can only find them these days in specialty stores, like places that sell Nazi memorabilia. "I'll take the Hermann Goering licorice twists, some Reinhard Heydrich gum drops and some cherry fizzies, please." In the early days, as I say, they were very heavily advertised on TV. Awful. Terrible. Unfit for human consumption. Their website indicates Fizzies were invented by the guy who invented Bromo Seltzer. Nuff said. :)

hahahaha.

I remember liking one of the flavors. Can't remember which though.

Same here. From what I understand, car dealerships are a major force against it since the way it's worded would mean they would have to be open on Sundays as well.

That's the thing. From my understanding, no one would be FORCED to be open. It'd just be an option. Just like some liquor stores close at 8pm M-TH, despite the option to be open until 10pm on those days (yes, I know different cities/counties have different laws, but I know of a couple stores that do opt to close at the earlier time).

Thought of another one: Swatches (those "fashionable" watches that were big-time in the 80's).

Re: What has disappeared since you were a kid

You can still find Swatches around every so often...god those things were horrible!
