I expect Alta will keep that rule for some time to come. I don't really hate boarders (unless they're parked in the middle of the slope), but it's cool to have one mountain that is still somewhat like the old days.

But, but, isn't that what they all do?

I come off the lift and there's a half dozen boarders sitting and laying in the middle of the run. I'm not a good enough skier to be able to avoid them with ease all the time.

I am good enough, but I still get as close as I can. Little snow spray here and there as well. It really makes them mad when you do it on snowboard only runs. Man do they get mad when you go off some of their jumps on skis. Just rut the hell out of them.

Deer Valley still does too, I think. And some joint out East. I can remember when Aspen and a lot of others used to though.

Mad River Glen is the place in Vermont that you are thinking of... They are a throwback to old school skiing in New England... No boarders, no high speed lifts, and very little grooming... Their motto is "Ski it if you can"

As for the old ski equipment some of you are talking about... If you want to see it, let me know... I've had several pairs that are as old or older than me come through my shop this year... What makes it even funnier is that people still think that old gear is worthwhile to have and maintain... One guy even wanted to put new $90 Marker Squire bindings on some Phil Mahre K2's he owned... At the time, $200-250 would have gotten him all new K2's from last year... He wanted to hear no part of that...

Yeah, they brought back the Z's, but the numbering's all different now. Weren't they Z250 and Z280 way back when? Now they're 350 or 370, something like that. And they're reminiscent of the old models in name only, really. I know the old ones were pretty good for a car company like Datsun, but they don't hold any real similarity to the current Z's.

the number refers to the engine. 260Z had 2.6 liter engine, 280Z had 2.8 liter engine, 350Z had 3.5 liter, etc.

That's it! Yah, that placekicker was a strange one. I think we just ignored the placekicker as we couldn't get it to work very well. I remember times when they'd all get in a big cluster somewhere on the field, with both sides just pushing against each other, and then some little spot would give and one side would push through the other. Good times. I've always dreamed of finding one in some old second-hand shop or something for a few bucks. Who knows, maybe somewhere out there somebody makes it again?

As kids we also were into Stratomatic baseball big time for five years or so. My brother and I would save up our allowances until between us we could afford the new year's stratomatic game. And then when it arrived, we'd spend hours and hours comparing all the player cards and all. I know it's still around, at least online, but I don't think it's nearly as big now as back then. We wore out the orange 1-20 cards you flip to see how fielding, stealing, etc. turns out. I think eventually our parents made up a new set for us or something.

My caring about professional sports teams outside of Minnesota teams. Up until about 5 years ago I was hardcore...4-5 NFL games a week plus playoffs and SB, NBA playoffs, Stanley Cup Baseball up the wazoo...this year I did not watch the WS beyond flipping by a few times to check out scores, I watched a few games of the Stanley Cup and maybe saw ten minutes of the SB that I can remember. Hell I wasnt even upset that the #1 rival of my team won. Sad really.

Hell, the only thing I am as passionate about as I was when I was younger (outside of my home teams) is March Madness...and when that goes to 96 teams in a few years that will probably ruin it for me.

They're up to the 370Z now and they are pretty good cars. But then again the Japanese car companies have been putting out some ridiculous cars, the Nissan GT-R, the Lexus LFA, the WRX STI, the Evo etc.

This. I'm still very much into the Super Bowl, World Cup, and Olympics. But March Madness is one of the few things I pay attention to even when Minnesota isn't in it. And, like you, once it goes to 96, I will likely just not care anymore.

I remember a vibrating football game where it was a metal field and a bunch of little players on pedestals. You'd set up your players in some formation on each side, hit the button, and they'd move forward, more or less. I remember it was a lot of fun until my brother pushed me one day and I fell on it, breaking it. Haven't seen one of those in decades.

We found 2 of those in my Grandparents' attic. My dad was excited because he played it all the time when he was a kid, so he tried to show us how it worked...it didn't. The thing vibrated and the players moved but they went everywhere, there was no way to make it work right.

I think my QB rating on that game was in the negative.

I also had Super Toe (aka Super Jock). He was that plastic field goal kicker you slammed down on the helmet and his leg would kick field goals with a plastic football.

The old Datsuns looked cooler, though. More character.

Hmmm, idea for next tailgate!

Edit: penny hockey, too! 3 pennies, flush with each other, in triangle formation. Hit rear penny from straight above, shoots other two pennies outward. Then, shood the penny you hit, between other two pennies, by flicking your finger. After that, it is the other player's turn to hit the "middle" penny back between the two outer pennies! I did a horrible job of explaining it, but those who have played get the idea.

Ice Cubes, for the most part. Occasionally, I run into a jar of them for 50 cents each, but it's rarer than ever (and yes, I know that their popularity peaked long before I was born ).
