West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Does anyone know if they allow outside food in to the building?
I will be attending the game with my family this afternoon and we are Passover-observant. There will be no food for sale (other than bottled water) that we can buy; the tickets say that there is no re-entry so we can't go back to our car to eat once we have entered.
Like most venues, they have a no outside food policy.
From Van Andel's FAQ:
Please visit our Concessions page for information on food and beverage services. Guests may not bring food and/or beverage items into the arena during events. Glass bottles or metal cans are strictly prohibited. Guests must dispose of the unauthorized items prior to entrance into the arena or return them to their vehicle. Guest Service’s will not check-in or store any food or beverage items.

Yale coverage reminder for this afternoon:

Our one-hour pregame show begins at 1 PM EDT, including: interviews with head coach Keith Allain ’80 and Grantland’s Katie Baker ’05, a roundtable discussion featuring members of the WYBC Sports crew and WYBC alumni, and plenty of coverage on site from Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. The puck drops just a few minutes after 2 PM EDT.

Konrad Coutinho ’13 and Evan Frondorf ’14 are in Grand Rapids for the call. The broadcast will be available on both WYBC-AM 1340 (in Connecticut) and WYBC.com/listen.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Smaller sheet of Ice causes problems with timing and location for both the defense and forwards.
Thats why the NHL goes to 4 on 4 for overtime, that gives more room for he players.
Larger rink gives more time to set up plays and work the puck up the ice.
I realize that both teams are playing on the same surface and the game is at a Neutral site but the rink size does make a difference, you say all the players grew up on NHL size rinks but they have not played together as a team until this year, they practice mostly on the larger sheet and get used to that. The game is still a team sport. Imangine if the NFL had different size fields how that would screw up a team, hockey is the same passing, receiving and timing.
Just my thoughts.

Hockey has been and will always be quirky relative to sports like football and basketball. The different sizes of ice just adds one more thing to love about the sport.

Puck drop in about 2 hours. I'm on Spring Break and looking forward to sitting on my butt for hours today to soak in three games of tourney action. Off to the gym so that I don't kill myself in the sitting.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Coach Lucia must have read my post in this thread about the lines...

Kyle Rau - Nick Bjugstad - Nate Condon
Sam Warning - Erik Haula - Zach Budish

Tom Serratore - Travis Boyd - Seth Ambroz
Empty - Christian Isackson - Justin Holl

I would personally put Bjugs at wing and Condon at center, but it's a start at least. :)

Looks like you may have to suffer through 3 hours without eating.

You so strict you won't eat peanuts?

I like it! I have been a little down this week after Friday's game, but I am up again. It is KILLING me that I am at work until 6:30 pm. Fortunately, the only other person that I work with, maybe the only other person I know:eek:who watches college hockey is gone today. Very little chance of someone spoiling it for me. Gophers win 5-1:cool:

Same situation here. Working and it's killing me. But I'm quite impressed you'd be able to wait and watch the game later. There will be no keeping me off twitter for updates today. I'll go back and speed through the game later to catch some good plays/highlights

Glad to see Condon up, but I'd switch out Boyd for Michaelson too.

I like Condon up there as well. Bjugs has the best faceoff %, and faceoffs and puck possession will be key early in this game. I'd keep Bjugs at C.

I think the greatest need for the Gophers is to storm the net, and bury the puck early and often. Yale is not a strong comeback team (2-6-3/trailing after 1, 1-7 trailing after 2 periods). Both the 1st and 2nd lines really need to break a brief scoring slump and contribute. Scoring has been dramatically down from the best players and that has to change starting NOW, especially Condon, Rau, Schmidt and Haula. The best players have to be the best players today.

Goal scoring over the last 8 games

Nick Bjugstad - 5
Zach Budish - 3
Sam Warning - 2
Nate Condon - 1
Erik Haula - 1
Kyle Rau - 1
Nate Schmidt - 0

Go Gophers! :)

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Would have been nice if Western had made it... This place would be so much more lively... Oh well! Go Sioux Go gophers! Hoping for a a bench clearing brawl if both teams play each other tomorrow.

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Yale playing a solid game so far. if they keep taking penalties the Gophs will make them pay!

Re: West Regional: Minnesota vs Yale

Bad enough that I have to listen to bias Gopher announcers during the regular season

Just give me a color commentator who can be objective as to what is happening on the ice
