A few things. First of all, if I'm Minnesota and saw Yale play Union and Quinni losing with a combined score of 8-0, I like my chances. Second, the Gophers haven't lost back to back games all year. Third, the Gophers have had their sights set on the NCAA's since Tampa last year. This is what they've been playing for all year so if you think they're going to come out uninterested like they did in the CC game, better think again.
Gophers dismantle Yale and pick up steam for their rematch with the UND.

Correct, they haven't lost back to back games all year, so I do like their chances. But it will not be a blowout, most of these NCAA tourney games are hard fought and close, with parity and all.

True, but lately they have been picking and choosing to lose on Friday and then come back for a win on Saturday or vice a versa and that chit ain't gonna work this weekend.

I agree. Last year the Gophers got played in 3 high scoring games in the NCAAs. This year I expect them to be closer, teams want to avoid getting into a shoot-out style game with the Gophers and will look to play them like BSU and CC have the past couple of weeks.

Looking forward to the game, I will be sitting in a bar in the TC to watch the game, do not have cable and the wife will not let me go to the game and miss Easter.

Whether it is the right approach or not vs an opponent of MIN's caliber, I think you will see Yale get into the fast paced shoot-out style anyway. In games vs BC/Den/CC this season, they have played a completely wide open style and generated 48/37/48 shots respectively. Seems to be their MO.

Totally agree. No one wants to see a 60 minute trap-fest at this point in the season.
I am not a Yale fan but I saw them play a few weeks ago when I was in New Haven. They play a very entertaining style of hockey: very quick transitions out of their zone, good passes, lots of speed. When they gain control in their own end they are moving as rapidly as possible up the ice to get a shot on goal. In the game I saw they had almost 20 SOG in the first period.
That being said, the team I saw is not built to physically clutch and grab and go toe-to-toe with Minnesota the whole game along the boards and in the corners. If they tried to play that kind of game they will lose 100% of the time against a team like Minnesota.
Their plan against highly ranked teams seems to be keep things moving fast, pour as many shots as you possibly can on goal, and get a solid game out of your goalie. I can't see them getting a massive shot total against MIN, but they'll definitely create as much offensive pressure as they can, and even take a few chances that might yield odd man rushes. There's no way they will sit back and play boring hockey and just wait for opportunities. If they can score a few goals and Malcolm stands on his head, they can make it a game.
I have no idea what happened in the ECAC playoffs, but as was said earlier in the thread, if they are in that funk, they will be blown out quickly.

Harley.....while the central theme of your post is duly noted, I must correct the record slightly; TECHNICALLY, the Bulldogs were 2-5-0 in February. The 2 wins (2/1 and 2/23) book-ended the 0-5-0 stretch during which G Jeff Malcolm was sidelined. Jeff was injured in the 2/1 Princeton game at The Whale, when he was "run" by an out-of-control Andrew Ammon, who as the son of Germany's ambassador to the U.S., should know better. Jeff was back for the 2/23 win vs. Princeton at Hobey's place, and tacked on 4 outstanding games in March until Yale's dismal performance in Atlantic City. Notwithstanding that little amendment, your point is well-taken...... Yale consistently played "down" to teams over whom they arguably enjoyed a talent edge, yet surprised on the upside against the Denvers, CCs, and B.C.s of the hockey world. I have no explanation for Yale's play in A.C., but I do have great faith in Keith Allain's ability to light a fire under the team. Any club, the Gophers included, that takes Yale lightly, does so at its own peril. The last time Minnesota was picked for a cake-walk over another Alma Mater, OOOOPS......the Cantabs had its first and only NCAA Championship.
