West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Agreed Hoven.

Now on to the game, looking forward to playing St Cloud State again at the X should a good matchup. Minnesota, St. Cloud State or NoDak will be playing for a NC in a couple of weeks.

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

It'd be nice to not have "session" tickets. Sure, it might hurt attendance at one game, but it'd probably more than balance out for the other.

Dumb question: who gets the concessions revenue/etc?

My understanding is that the venues basically buy the tournament. They bid to pay the NCAA a set amount for the right to host it, and they keep the revenue from all sources. In that regard, once the bids are made it makes no difference to the NCAA how many people show up. But the more money venues make, the higher they bid in subsequent years and the more money the NCAA makes from those bids. So at the end of the day, total revenue for the venue from all sources is what matters.

Agreed about it being nice if they offered single game rather than session passes. This has been a gripe for a while. Luckily for me, I would attend all the games regardless and it's easy to get out and back in at the X between games. I'm not sure if that is the case at all arenas (technically it's not allowed) and I also know the majority of fans are only interested in the game "their" team is playing.

I also think WeAreNDHockey is right on with his observations about Cinci. I'm really hoping that this year showed other venues and the NCAA that lowering ticket prices may help to increase total profit. We shall see.

As for the actual game today...should be good. I'm expecting something similar to the Notre Dame game yesterday where MN carries the play and the edge in shots (although probably not by such a large margin as ND did last night) but the game will go down to the wire. Lucia was saying in his postgame presser last night that the focus for the Gophers going forward is going to be on defensive play. It will be interesting to see if that plays out today. My feeling is that we are in for another fairly high scoring affair in the 6-9 goal range.

Oh, I know all about the *ahem* "smoker's exemption" for re-entry at the X. :)

And I also agree it would be a snowball effect as you detailed. Just to throw this out there: instead of $100 for a session, I'd think about buying a cheaper single game ticket, and use the "extra" money for a brat/drink, maybe a souvenir or two, etc. All money that goes back into the event as a whole.

Really looking forward to tonight. We'll be at Eagle Street in about an hour. I'll be with the two jokers in Holy Cross jerseys. I wasn't able to talk them out of their apparel choice.

Winner gets UND. That sounds like fun.

Sounds like you are hanging out with two people of stupendous character and taste. Other than being SCSU fans that is.

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Oh but of course. While funny, still says where SCSU is at. I'd rather we represent our team instead of focusing on a once in a forever misstep by a storied program.

Tonight is a big deal obviously. Making two Frozen Fours in a row is something. Having to go through the Gophers is even bigger.

Lets hope to the hockey gods (one being Herb) that it is not North Dakota. Sconny in the final four and NoDak in the frozen four would be a dark day in Gods country

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Are the guys wearing Holy Cross jerseys still in the building or did they head to the bar?

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Well at least Bobby put up a fight... jan just rolled over and got it handed to her.

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Solid all around game by the Gophers tonight, they played some great D.

Frozen Four against the Sioux should be crazy fun.

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Well that was 6 periods of...something. I can't honestly call whatever that was "hockey." Out worked.

And if Faragher was sick enough to get yanked he shouldn't have been out there in the first place. That's on Motzko.

The Huskies were odd that way for much of the year. Won a lot of games we had no business being in because the defense did JUST enough and we had some great offensive players. We will look back fondly on this season, but the Gophers and Wilcox are much too good to steal games from the way we did for so much of the year. I didn't think Faragher was that bad tonight.

I didn't think he had much of a chance on any of the 3 goals scored against him. When they made the switch I was convinced there was some equipment issue until I saw him come back up the tunnel and onto the bench.

Tough game for the Huskies. They needed MN to have some miscues and turnovers, and there were almost none. If MN can take care of the puck like that for another 2 games, I really like their chances.

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

I also wouldn't blame that on Faragher and I don't think Motzko did either, just tried to get a spark going. I was happy to see the Gophers exercise some late season demons with some inspired play this weekend. Far from perfect, but they played with energy and I thought it was their best back to back efforts on the forecheck since I can't remember.
