West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

I remember the invincible ineptitude of SCSU in the NCAA tourney.

When Notre Dame beats SCSU this Saturday what will Huskies overall NCAA record be?
What will Minnesota's be when they lose to Robert Morris?

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Man it would be awesome if Bobby Mo or Notre Dame came out of this region.

Re: West Regional - Minnesota/Robert Morris & St. Cloud State/Notre Dame

Here are the results for SCSU in the NCAA tournament:

1989: (6) St. Cloud State loses 6-3, 4-2 at (3) Lake Superior State
2000: (6) St. Cloud State loses 5-3 to (3) Boston U. in Albany
2001: (2) St. Cloud State loses 4-3 to (3) Michigan in Grand Rapids
2002: (5) St. Cloud State loses 4-2 to (4) Michigan in Ann Arbor
2003: (4) St. Cloud State loses 5-2 to (1) New Hampshire in Worcester
2007: (2) St. Cloud State loses 4-1 to (3) Maine in Rochester
2008: (2) St. Cloud State loses 2-1 to (3) Clarkson in Albany
2010: (2) St. Cloud State wins 4-3 over (3) Northern Michigan in St. Paul
2010: (2) St. Cloud State loses 5-3 to (1) Wisconsin in St. Paul
2013: (4) St. Cloud State wins 5-1 over (1) Notre Dame in Toledo
2013: (4) St. Cloud State wins 4-1 over (2) Miami in Toledo
2013: (4) St. Cloud State loses 4-1 to (1) Quinnipiac in Pittsburgh

So of our losses, we were the higher seed in 3 of them. They were all 2 vs. 3 matchups and two of the three were in the opponent's home state. The only one that I thought displayed ineptitude was the Clarkson loss. We probably should have gotten lucky and won one of those earlier ones but we didn't draw the Gophers.

2 vs. 3...home state..,higher seed

With twisted logic like this, no wonder you're now relying on luck for a win.

I think after the Bucky/Pioux match up the Irish/Cloudie game is great one. The Irish will get their trap going and it will be interesting to see how the Huskies respond.

Probably the same way we did last year.

Great omen for this weekend... actually had to call a guy for work named Robert Morris. Did a double take when I saw his name.

Can we never talk about the 2001 Regional ever again? Ugh...

Don't know.

But it'll still include more national championships than SCSU has NCAA tourney wins, won't it?

Gophers fans and Green Bay Packers fans are so alike. LOVE making comparisons that include years and years where the other team wasn't in existence. Since SCSU has been D1, the Gophers have won two national championships. Impressive, yes. But in your little comparison here, not exactly relevantly accurate.

What NFL team do you root for that wasn't in existence when the Packers won Superbowls?

Irregardless of when the gophers won titles and whether SCSU played D-1 at the time, there's a Grand ****ing Canyon of difference between a program that's won 5 titles and a program that's won 3 total tourney games and no - zero, zilch, haven't even sniffed one - titles.

And Jan fan wonders why they can't escape their label...

PS - Of course there's also a big difference between 6 and 5, but we won't get into that here. :D:p

So if relevance is the key, since SCSU was D1, they are 3-10 in NCAA games and the Gophers are 25-20 with 2 National Championships. How's that?

FWIW, the Gophers are 52-35 overall in NCAA play.

He is talking about the Packers fans referring to their NFL titles from the 30s and 40s.

Which "Jan" fan wondered why they can't escape their label? I don't see any discussion of that in this thread.

The Vikings and never said the Packers NEVER won Super Bowls nor did I say the Gophers NEVER won national championships while the teams in question existed. The cute comment made was directly to national championships vs. tournament wins.

Not saying the Gophers aren't a great program, they are and they have proven that time and time again. Just stating a fact in a more relevant comparison. Yep, there is a big difference between the two programs. I understand you don't earn respect of the other programs until you win at least one national championship. But to look at the SCSU program that has just won two conference championships in a row and consistently making the tournament and call it irrelevant is a mistake. Go ahead and look past them because of past history.

Same level as the Gophers, North Dakota and Wisconsin's programs and histories? Not even close. Understand that. Never said that. Can they play with those teams based on very recent history? Absolutely.

Since you went all grammar police on Gurt, let me help you. When you guys start whining about the Gophers, "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" is the understood subject.:D
