Chilling at the La Quinta in C-Springs.

Twitch: hit the arcade in Manitou Springs tomorrow. Trust me on this one. Knowing you, you'll have a conniption, then an orgasm, then maybe an aneurysm. :)

Re: We're Too Good for the Basement - Michigan Tech at Colorado College, Oct. 23-24,

I'll be at the Golden Bee by five (if they let me in). Gmf1a should show between 5 and 5:15 pm.
Wish I were there to join you guys! I miss my CC "family".:(

Try not to mention hitting things, it's a bad omen.

So.
Bakunin's determined that the Gophers should just be called the Michigan Tech Gophers.
MavHockey14 just admitted that MSUM played worse than Tech tonight.

Things are looking good.

The frequency at which I'm hearing the lowerclassmen's names during this broadcast makes me a little optimistic for the future.

YEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

Meet the new boss! The same as the old boss!

Same old Tech team. Maintain good possession early, take too many low-percentage shots, setup a 5x3 for the other team, can't finish enough chances, lose.

*puts fist through wall, Denver-style*

Coach Russell: "Penalty kill sucked."

Russell

-Poorly timed penalties
-"Penalty kill sucked"
-Unhappy with Olson's penalty to put us down 5x3
-Upperclassman out of position on the Sweatt goal
-Freshman mistake on the Lowery goal

-"Not good on faceoffs"
-Decent job transitioning and getting chances
-Poor job finishing and putting good shots on net

-Happy with Robo. None of the goals were his fault.

-Unhappy with Soley - too many "mistakes within the system"
-Bunger will take his spot on the 4th line tomorrow

-Decision on Saturday goalie will be made tomorrow after they review some tape.

So we suck same as last year. Kinda glad I went out and wasted more money I don't have getting drunk. Guess we decide if we're the exact same as last year if we end up blowing the 2nd game same as the first one or not

Twitch's thoughts on the game.

(In all seriousness, we didn't look terrible, but for the love of TJ Oshie could we PLEASE stop doing things like that? This was a winnable game.)

I'm gonna have to agree with you here. If they had learned from their mistakes by tightening up after that first PP and done a better job of crashing the net for a couple of ugly goals, the result may have been different.

Tomorrow's game will tell us something about this MTU team for the next couple of weeks. Do they return from a tough loss and still manage a halfway decent performance, or do they just collapse and get shutout?

Re: We're Too Good for the Basement - Michigan Tech at Colorado College, Oct. 23-24, 2009

Wondering for the Tech fans that saw the game, if they can confirm whether Eli V played forward.

If so, why does this happen every year. Does that mean Bunger, Lickteig, Rohn, or Reddick are not better at forward than Eli. God forbid, that there are injuries again.

All I hoped for this team this year was to scratch, claw, and grab for every point they can get. Have some pride and go out there and refuse to allow yourselves to have a bad season. Hopefully that starts tonight with a big win against CC. Hardest working team in the country -- remember.

Go Tech.....

I didn't stay up to hear it myself, but the Gag-zet quoted the following:

"You're not going to win too many hockey games when you give up three power-play goals," Tech coach Jamie Russell said in his postgame interview with WKMJ-FM. "An older player on our team that was cheating to offense on the penalty kill opened up Billy Sweatt for a one-timer.

"We had an assistant captain who took a retarded penalty that put us two men short. They score five-on-three. Then we had a freshman made a mistake, gave up a pretty Grade-A shot on a defenseman that walked from the boards all the way to the middle of the rink below the top of the circle and let a shot go."

That sounds like every penalty kill we have. If you want to see the difference between a good team and us, just watch the PKs. We have a very passive, tight little box that doesn't move much, doesn't pressure the opposing team at all, and pretty much lets the other team walk around us at will until they come in close enough to try to stop them, while pretty much every other team out there is active, and stays as open as possible applying as much pressure as they can until they need to collapse. Granted, that's probably because our PP sucks enough to let them do that, but still
