Well, Well, We Meet Again... SCSU @ NMU, 10/14-15

Re: Well, Well, We Meet Again... SCSU @ NMU, 10/14-15

St. Cloud fans seem so confident, ha ha... I mean, you are an NCHC school, so you should crush a lowly WCHA team, right :p

Yeah, but these players we have are WCHA recruits. Wait until we get the kids who've waited all their lives to play for a (insert name of trophy) in the National!

Could be worse... we could have split the NCHC in 2 halves and named them Legends and Leaders

Heh, that's a terrible idea. I hope no conference ever names their divisions that.......

....oh wait, one did.

I'd like to hear from any fans who actually saw either team in person.

This is the same NMU team that got beat up by Bowling Green to close out the season, so I have a lot of serious concerns about this year's team. Let's be honest about it all. St. Cloud plays on the olympic sheet as well. So no home ice advantages from a surface standpoint.

Raceboarder? Any thoughts? They sounded decent on the radio, aside from the revolving door on the penalty box...

I smell a split. Which is good according to a former Husky coach.

I thought the team looked very solid against UW. Great effort strong execution and winning most of the one on one battles. The penalties were the one area of real concern. Florek was fantastic. Kory Kaunisto may be the most improved and Seckel and Thurber look like excellent additions to the lineup as are Mitch Jones and Walchuk. The goaltending was very good too.

You want to show concern about the losses to Bowling Green to end the season, but did you recall that NMU dominated both of those games, outshooting BG 29-20 in losing 2-0 and 45-34 in the 2-1 OT loss. There was no lack of effort or performance, they simply had a goaltender steal a couple games. To say they got "beat up" by Bowling Green is quite unfair and very inaccurate.

I wish I could have made it up there this weekend. I haven't seen the now not so new arena. The Northern fans are always great I hd a great time the only time I was there many moons ago.

This series wasn't on my radar for a road trip 'cause it was bad timing and I figured, "Well, we will get to see them a lot more when they join the WCHA." Whoops. And then it was too late to do anything about it in my case.

Like Dave said, the team overall was solid... It seemed like there was a lot of feeling things out for the Cats as far as just having an idea of who was doing what on the ice.... Offensively we seemed to be moving the puck solidly.... Lots of tape to tape passing... Friday night we seemed to be a bit fatigued at the end of the game, and that is what allowed WI back in it... I think that might have led to the penalties as well... It seemed like the Cats were frustrated at times...

Thurber also seemed to fit into the system as well... Several WI fans commented on how good he looked vs when he wore the red and white... He seems to have put his hard hat on and went to work during the year he sat out... Goaltending was solid all weekend as well with neither goalie making any major mistakes... Coreau seemed slow coming back to shut off that one wrap around, but it's early, so I'll give him a pass...

Overall, I liked what I saw and am looking forward to seeing this team grow throughout the season...

Hence why I'll probably make the trip down next year. That, and it's closer than Marquette is from Duluth.

Coreau was bumped by an NMU D-man as he attempted to move across.

Ah, ok... We couldn't see that from our seats... We just saw that he was way late... Like I said, it's early, so I'm not concerned...

Didn't quite see the contact in the replay on the Wisco Public TV. To me it looked like Coreau didn't push off laterally fast/strong enough.

Re: Well, Well, We Meet Again... SCSU @ NMU, 10/14-15

Andrew Cherniwchan looked pretty solid in practice yesterday. I'm sure he'll be in the lineup somewhere. Looks like Mr Hatten just copied last Saturday's NMU lines.
