Weighing Realignment?

Re: Weighing Realignment?

wishful thinking, but not going to happen

A more likely scenario is Notre Dame jumps ship to the NCHC (once they figure out the TV conflicts) and the if NCHC doesn't add Arizona, possible look for FSU to be added to the NCHC.

WOW Florida State starting a team. Wouldn't they be better off in HE which would mean Norte would want back in so back to square one

Re: Weighing Realignment?

I tweeted at Mike Eidelbes about realignment, interesting (at least to me) response:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>I think LSSU, NMU, MTU are OK with WCHA. RT <a href="https://twitter.com/ShortShortsShaf">@ShortShortsShaf</a>: What about MAC/GLIAC schools with possibly Notre Dame as a conference?</p>— Mike Eidelbes (@INCH) <a href="https://twitter.com/INCH/status/566442831334866944">February 14, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I always thought a re-boot of the CCHA would include the Yoopers. If it's the Western NY or Atlantic Hockey schools as part of the re-boot, I can see why Miami and Western would be hesitant on leaving the NCHC, even though their travel costs would plummet. SOS in a conference with Niagara, Canisus, teams well under the scholarship limit, etc would be egregiously bad, at least for the next few years. Maybe not worth the cost savings after all.

There has been a lot of chatter on Twitter today via John Buccigross about the possibility of reforming the CCHA in some manner within the next few years. Certain Miami fans would balk at the idea but I'm not so sure that their administration would due to their travel costs; but the core members would likely be BG, Miami, and WMU. Other likely members would be Ferris, LSSU, possibly NMU, Robert Morris, Canisius, and Mercyhurst. Would ND be interested? Who knows? Perhaps if they can get past their egos. Geographically speaking, though, it would be a helluva lot more convenient for them.

Sorry, but no.

Why ask Dirty? You made the incorrect assertion.

Davyd83, you know better that to engage #1CollegePinkHockeyPonyFan. He's simply an instigator with his hand on his laptop clicking his mouse every time his ticks someone off. The best response is to use the "ignore" feature. Don't feed the Pony.

Re: Weighing Realignment?

I always wondered why Bowling Green was hesitant on joining the WCHA and why the kept the CCHA rights?

from the mouth of Fred Pletsch:

"The CCHA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation licensed by the state of Michigan, so in order to receive approval from the attorney general of the State of Michigan to dissolve the corporation, we need to file a plan, follow through on that plan and have certain conditions are met. Part of those conditions are that financial records and tax records have to be kept on file with an institution so if they need to be accessed down the road.

We’re in the process of entering into an agreement with Bowling Green. Bowling Green is the only school that played all 42 seasons in the CCHA. In exchange for the rights to the name and the logo and the mark and the website and all that stuff, Bowling Green is going to take control of those records and have them on file and also be a place to keep the trophies for historical purposes."

They should since they won trophies many years ago in the CCHA.

Why were they incorporated in Michigan considering that there were no Michigan schools the first year of the CCHA?

Re: Weighing Realignment?

Columbia's never joining. Penn had D-1 as recently as the 70s and they have a great building. There was once an active hockey alumni group trying to prod them into restoring the D1 program.

Having said all of which, I don't think we'll ever make the lethal error of ghettoizing ourselves. Going to a pure Ivy model would just hasten the day where our hockey programs had the national competitiveness of our football and basketball programs.

In time it will happen, just like football for the Ivy League teams. When we are all gone and every major hockey college has a D1 team, I see it happening. $ always wins in the end and the Ivy League schools won't play money ball/puck.

The CCHA will always be available to Bowling Green if they ever get fed up with all the miles on the bus in the WCHA. BGSU could always form a low cost travel CCHA league.
