WCHA Tournament

Also, does the Final Face-Off absolutely have to be held on a D-1 campus? In the earliest days of the WCHA Tournament, it was held in venues like the Bloomington Ice Garden. In a facility like that, I would think the dates could be guaranteed.
I'm not 100% certain but I believe the conferenc wants the on campus venues that can accommodate it. But from the lack of attendance perhaps Ohio State could be in the rotation? 😆

Aww hell, let’s put OSU rink in the rotation! It’s no more cringey than scheduling around the men. Come on Muzerall take up the fight!

Long before $$ attempts to justify the decision naked sexism drives the decisions.
I see with my kids’ sports all the time. And that’s why I have no time for “but the money” arguments.

Pwhl just sold out TD Garden and Madison Square Garden if that counts for anything.

For the record, the box scores from yesterday say that there were 1449 tickets sold for the Wisconsin- Mankato game, and 1687 for the Minnesota-Ohio State game. Somebody who was there can maybe give a better guess, but from TV, I'd say a quarter of those numbers were actually used? Maybe a third?

As for LaBahn, maybe they should try that in spite of the size challenges. It would likely mean plunking down 6 to 10 tables somewhere, either conncourse or bleachers, where the people on laptops can park. At least it would sell out, provided they go there while MJ is rolling out dominant teams every year. Hopefully, it wouldn't come with some condition like it can't overlap with any event in the Kohl Center.
Once more, I'm going to bring up the 2022 U18 World Championships. Arlen, did you attend?

Besides the regular - and yes, very small - press "balcony", they used a number of areas of the "railing" that acts as the divider between the concourse and the upper row of the seating as reserved areas for team coaches/staff, and/or ''extra" press, and/or other VIP sorts of people. That railing is wide enough to use a laptop on, thought maybe just barely, and they had to sit on "barstool" chairs. And there was nothing in terms of a separator between them and regular fans walking by.

I'll leave to other to say if having to live with that is worse than the horrors of playing on a Thursday. But it was a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, and it seemed to have gone quite well. So I'm of the opinion that LaBahn could probably handle four teams for a WCHA final four.

When we do get a new barn it will undoubtedly be in the rotation and I don't want to hear whining about it's too far. Our fans have made the trip to Minnesota for year so it would only be fair you come here or just watch it on TV.
Fair enough. But if you wait so long to build it that I'm dead, then I'm not attending! :p The good news, is that I learned how to spell Ohio from your fans; apparently, one pauses after the first two letters. (y)

I did not attend. USA Hockey controlled events are difficult to cover, in that they will leave you a credential (maybe -- there were times when it was good that other staff knew who I was or I wouldn't have gotten access), but postgame access can be a free for all. Given you were there, you'd know better than I how well-covered it was by media. I'm not sure how many people from outside of the Madison regulars would be there. For the WCHA, you're going to at least get both student reporters and radio (or streaming if that's what they're called now) from two of the teams. I suppose tOSU ignores it if one of their high-profile football recruits has a club wrestling tournament that they have to cover, but if Muzzy has left by then, then perhaps the Buckeyes have returned to being a hockey wasteland. If you can get all of those people in the pressbox, then I suppose it works with your railing. Most places at least give you a rope separator from the public.

Do you know where they do press conferences for LaBahn games that are more formal than "outside the locker room?" That worked fine for season games, but WCHA usually wants a sit-down affair with teams at a table, and I've only seen those held downstairs at the Kohl Center (e.g., for Fill the Bowl).

Great point and the same applies to myself and other Ohio State posters here on forum, most of us are no spring chickens.
Supposedly fundraising has begun for the arena but unless a mega donor steps up they say don't expect construction for
4-5 years. I don't expect Les Wexner to fund it and I don't want him to because I cringe at the thought of the student body nicknaming it the Pedo Center!

Not crazy about the "tackle hockey" being played that last five minutes or so. UW might well have been able to clear their zone just before the final goal, if not for one of the tackles.
I'm wrong about the last goal, Jungels got blasted into the boards, but it was the trip into the Badger D zone before the trip in that resulted in the goal.

There was plenty that was let go both ways in that one. An observer is left to wonder why they decided to call those that they did compared to those that they didn't. As a neutral, the ratio of calls versus non-calls seemed about right and not slanted either way, although maybe not if one considers when in addition to how many. The play on the winning goal looked like one where the puck was determined to cross the line and was willing to find something to bounce off of to make that happen.

Overall, tOSU continued to impress, as they have since their depleted roster showed up during the Olympics. I didn't envision a world where UW wasn't the #1 seed, and I think that the Badgers have a better game in them than that one.

Speaking of depletion, is anyone expected to return for either team prior to season's end? Not a lot of spare skaters.

The only player I'm aware of missing yesterday was Mira Jungaker. Nobody on Wisconsin is injured or otherwise unavailable.

Thanks! I was looking at the stats on collegehockeynews, where they apparently only show the players who hit the ice (although they do include the line charts just below if yours truly would have scrolled down). Meanwhile, the game stats on uwbadgers include everybody on the roster, including redshirts who may never dress. Reminds me again of how much I miss collegehockeystats.

UW has two players who redshirted this year, the two younger Gorbatenko sisters. That still left 24 players 'active' on the roster (which helped during the Olympics.) Bella Vasseur has been injured for much of her time at Wisconsin, and is injured again right now, but would likely have been a scratch yesterday anyway. Grace Bickett was a healthy scratch at D yesterday. Others didn't see much ice time yesterday, though I'm sure I saw the 4th line a couple times.

Thanks for documenting that. It's strange how little news comes out via press releases, etc., for players. E.g., from the point Sarah Paul was injured, there might have been more written about her if she'd gone into the witness protection program.

So when all is said and done, who winds up with the friendlier bracket for the QF? UW hosts Q coming off what figures to be a get-acclimated game. Meanwhile, tOSU has the winner of UMD and Yale. Maybe it's just a matter of who matches up with who, not that it should matter much, as the top two are just visibly better than everyone else.
