WCHA Thread V

Re: WCHA Thread V

Just set the DVR - both 7PM Central starts:

Thursday - Comcast 263 (Fox College Sports Central)
Friday - Comcast 262 (Fox College Sports Atlantic)

Probably not in HD but still very good news.

There you go.

I now find both of them on my on screen program guide just as you say.

Woohoo. Not going to have to spend $9 to subscribe to UND webstream. I recognize that 262 and 263 are not HD but I also recognize that both are actual TV, not webstream.

Thank you very much.

Does anyone have any idea what channels these are on DirecTV?

Re: WCHA Thread V

The place I'm at sees the game on the schedule, but can't select the channel. I am finding the UND stream working just fine.

The channel isn't part of the cable package at that location. I had to add a "Sports Channel" package for the weekend so I could watch/record.

Not used to watching SD programming. This is what we once watched all the time? Spoiled. :o

This place has the sports package; I've watched that channel before here. Something's just goofy tonight.

I don't remember watching women's hockey "all the time" on TV, but I totally agree that watching so much other programming in HD has us all spoiled.

Re: WCHA Thread V

North Dakota played incredibly well tonight (making last week's tie with St. Cloud even more of a ***? event), but they have to be a little bit concerned, at least over the long run. They won by turning themselves into Bemidji State: blocking shots; clogging lanes; forechecking aggressively; and just hoping that they have someone that can score. Tonight, that hope was fully vindicated, as moving Amy Menke to the top line paid off, as the three of them came up huge.

The problem is that those three, along with an assist from Gracen Hirschy, were the only offensive threats North Dakota had tonight, which is two more players than looked dangerous last night. While the whole roster played great defense tonight (with a shout out to Jordan Hampton in particular), the offense is limited to seniors plus a junior or two. None of the underclassmen were threatening, and you have to wonder where the offense is going to come from next year, or on nights when the opponent neutralizes the top line.

It's one thing to play like Bemidji State when you are Bemidji State, but that hasn't really been the style of Brian Idalski teams up to now.

I don't really agree with that. I can think back to UND's shutouts of the Gophers both last season and back in December of 2011. The efforts looked much like this last game.

In most of the games North Dakota has won against Minnesota, they got scoring up and down the lineup, and the general impression I've had of their teams, both watching them against Minnesota and in what people have described of their play against other teams, is of more aggressively offensive teams than I saw tonight. It may be that their best performances against Minnesota have come when they play like this, but it sounds like this has become a more consistent style for them this year, such as in their series against Bemidji.

They also usually have more balanced scoring than this year's team has, with at least two dangerous lines. Right now, outside of Menke/Dufault/Kohler, they don't have any forwards on a pace for more than 14 points for the season.

Re: WCHA Thread V

Just one series scheduled for the coming week...

Friday, Saturday November 6 & 7, 2015

Bemidji State @ Ohio State

...but it should be a good one.

When a team has multiple players, over several season, who intentionally try to injure opponents it taints them all IMHO. I have no problem with tough physical play but I have seen several years of UND players trying to hurt people. UMD had moved from physical to ugly a couple years back and OSU had a couple of problem children but no team has consistently tried to hurt people (while I was watching at least) as the ?. So those other women may be swell people, church regulars who donate to United way & love all mankind but it leaves me asking why they chose UND. I thought the Bulldogs played cleanly this year so I blame a certain coach, I didn't see any issues with the Buckeyes so it could be the coach or the graduation of the problem. I saw at least 3 dirty plays against BSU (and only 1 of those from #4) so I assume it is a conscious decision to play that way. That is not the fault of everyone on the bench but it is the teams personality. Why would anyone want to associate with that personality? I get that if you want to go to the NHL dirty ugly play is required but whats in it for the players you mentioned? Sorry if I sound unduly harsh but I love hockey and don't think kids should have a lifetime of physical pain or brain injuries simply because they play the game, and one team stands out in my mind as the exemplar of all I don't want to see in womens hockey. Its dangerous enough when played well, it angers me a lot to see players abused. (I'll add that I have an issue with one particular Gopher, it is not consistent but I have seen her do things that I don't like) but that is one and there are parts of the game that lend themself to abuse including the notion that one must 'get even' for somethings. My daughter played that way & I didn't like it & told her so. I am not singling out UND as much as they are singling themselves out.

"Now its true what they say about boss Grissom, he was a terrorist and a fiend, on the other hand he had a wonderful singing voice."

I think we've been over much of this ground before, so I guess we disagree.
