Starting the next WCHA thread...
Some interesting storylines:
Coming up, a full conference schedule: (Comments by ARM)

Minnesota-Duluth @ Minnesota State -- IIRC, Means suspension should now be concluded, and surprise, Miller is first to visit;

Ohio State @ Minnesota -- 1st place is on the line;

St. Cloud State @ North Dakota -- may be closer than we'd have thought a couple weeks ago;

Bemidji State @ Wisconsin -- new barn.
After last week, do I dare prognosticate? If we know anything at all, we know that this is NOT your typical season in the WCHA!

I'll have to think about it for a day or two...

See? ALL the pressure to start a real, live SCSU Huskies thread evidently closed down this thread. Thank goodness CrazyDave saved it.

Not brimming with confidence, but am hoping to improve on last week's mediocre prognosticating:

Minnesota-Duluth @ Minnesota State - MSU gets a split at home

Ohio State @ Minnesota - Gophers win both and grab first place

St. Cloud State @ North Dakota - North Dakota begins to right the ship and sweeps

Bemidji State @ Wisconsin - The Beavers' woes continue and Wisconsin sweeps at La Bahn

My picks are... ummm... yeah... what D2D said. :o ;)

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Minnesota-Duluth @ Minnesota State - tUMD takes both games. All coaches suspended for two months.

Ohio State @ Minnesota - Gophers win both and grab first place

St. Cloud State @ North Dakota - Huskies begin Domination Era, sweep easily. (Both Lams transfer to SCSU)

Bemidji State @ Wisconsin - Bemidji, reeling from being swept by SCSU/Wisco, just reeling=SPLIT

I love this post... LMAO

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Can anyone in this league score? So far, the offense seems limited to the Gophers, two forwards for North Dakota and anyone that plays Lindenwood.

UND might pick it up quite a bit if / when Karvinen suits up. In the results thread the unpredictable nature of the WCHA early has been noted. One possibility I would keep an eye on is a No Dak potential to pick it up with Karvinen in the lineup. She's a difference maker.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Also...nice job by both the Beavs and Mavs tonight! Making things very interesting already!

Well, Taylor Kuehl did score twice on us, which is better than our three previous opponents did in six games.

Well, at least we have something to take away from yesterday's game. :D

Hopefully we do better today.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Not going to comment on that right now. I've seen this movie before. They have a great start to the season, then Christmas break hits.
Although if they are in good shape at Christmas, then look out, because the schedule shoult get easier in another month. They've opened with series against Wisconsin, NoDak, and UMD -- in theory, that should be a tough stretch. Now they get Mercyhurst, Wisco' again, and Minnesota. If they continue to hold their own against those teams, they figure to be in the running for home ice in the WCHA quarters.

Not a particularly good week here either. Other than predicting Minnesota to sweep their series SO FAR, this year's WCHA seems SO different than....it has EVER been? I did think MSU had a decent-to-good chance to get the split at home, but they (again) exceeded expectations. And I did think the Gophers and UND would each sweep at home...but no way did I see Bemidji bouncing back to outpoint the Badgers, in Madison no less. Nice going Beavers!

I'll turn to ARM, our own "WCHA expert historian", and ask, has there ever been a season like this when, putting UND aside, OSU, MSU, BSU and SCSU have won as many games against the traditional Top 3 in the conference, at this point in the season? Something tells me that this season has started out very differently from anything we've seen before.

This season may be a bit different in that we've already had a lot of conference games for this point of the season. The years where off the top of my head I remember at least two of the top 3 teams struggling against the rest of the league were 2000-01, 2006-07, and 2009-10. I don't know that it has necessarily been this early. UMD got swept in Mankato to open the 2003-04 season, and the 'Dogs lost a lot of games out of conference and versus UM, but I don't know that they struggled as much against the bottom teams. I'd agree with you -- I don't remember a year where it has been this wide open.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Minnesota-Duluth @ Boston College

New Hampshire @ Wisconsin

Bemidji State @ Ohio State

Minnesota @ North Dakota

Minnesota State @ Mercyhurst

St. Cloud State @ Providence

These series coming up this weekend. Another tussle for first place in the conference. The Mavs head to Erie. The Wildcats of NH visit Madison.

Status of Karvinen the big question from my vantage point.
