WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

I agree. I was at that game. You could hear a pin drop walking out of there.
No win is a guarantee in the WCHA. UAH is going to surprise somebody this year.
Give Corbs a couple of 3 years and UAH will be solidly in the mix.
In the meantime they'll surprise a few overconfident teams.
Can't remember who but he hired somebody with BCHL recruiting experience. Combine that with his USA recruiting connections (remember he comes from AF Academy) and UAH will do fine on his watch.

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

I'm not worried. I just don't like our trend line: 4 wins in 2010-11, 2 in 11-12, 1 in 12-13. [Yes, the record says three; that's because you count all games once you start playing NCAA teams. We beat one team — Lake in the Soo — and tied one — Mankato at the VBC.] That says that we tie somebody this year, and that's it. I don't think that will happen, but I'm struggling to see where the wins are going to happen anytime soon. We're probably getting steamrolled this weekend when we host Jan Brady State.

Ah well. Like everyone says, give us three seasons or so.

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

1) Maybe if you kept trying to talk hockey in the other thread, they would have let up on the travel talk.
2) We were closing in on the end of the thread anyway.
3) The real crime... you didn't follow the naming convention. If anything this should have been "New WCHA 4, A New Hope."

:p

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

Interesting to note that Ferris is on top, Hunstville on bottom and the other 8 are all .500. I don't expect to see a lot of separation and we could see some teams on the final weekend with the chance to finish 2d or 3rd with a sweep and 6th or 7th if they get swept. It's going to be an interesting season.

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

I agree that its early, but I stand by my thought that this week's Ferris-BG series is huge.

Most everybody expected Ferris to be a contender, and they have not yet done anything to dispel that idea. Most pre-season predictions had BG 'in the mix' for home ice, but I don't think anybody (outside of BG) thought they'd be more than that.

Many current WCHA fans might not realize the extent of the history these programs have from their CCHA days. These teams really don't like each other.

I wish I could be there in person:(

In my own preseason poll (for whatever that's worth) I had BGSU third behind first place Mankato and second place MTU.

Here was my entire poll:
1. Mankato
2. MTU
3. BGSU
4. Ferris
5. UA
6. NMU
7. LSSU
8. Bemidji
9. UAA
10. UAH

I figured teams 6,7, and 8 could end up in any type of order. LSSU could be the surprise of the season.

I was there also, and after the game they made a big circle in the parking lot did the snow dance. I was stuck in Houghton till late Monday.

Are you referring to Matty Thomas, not to be confused with your Matt Thomas? :)

I agree it's a huge weekend, if you're a fan in BR or BG, but outside of that I can see how others see it as too early to put too much thought in it. This is going to be a very tight league and there aren't many easy weekends. Both schools probably look at this as an opportunity to try to separate from the pack.

I remember when BGSU beat Ferris 2 games to 1 two years ago in the opening round of the CCHA playoffs. We were the #1 seed and you were in last. You could tell then that BGSU had some quality talent coming up. This should be a good series and a good matchup for years to come.

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

And unfortunately, the Nooks seem to go into hibernation every so often...

Re: WCHA: Let's talk Hockey!

Hell, we were the lesser independent last year. So do any of you think that we'll win a league game this year?

GFM

I think y'all will figure it out for at least a few games... I would be ****ed if my team just mailed it in against UAH...

** looks at schedule**

Yea, no mailing it in NMU :p
