WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Looked full.

Looks like that when the cameras avoid showing the upper deck as little as possible. :p

Still, 15,292 for the play-in game is pretty darn good. Only 2,319 short of the play-in game attendance last year between UMD and Minnesota.

Probably beats the CCHA final.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

I figure with 8,000 Sioux fans in the house tomorrow night, the 30 Denver fans might be a little outnumbered. But then again, I think we may pick up another 10,000 fans from the Gophers, Bulldogs, Badgers, and Huskies who all may dislike UND more than Denver....:D

Yeah, LOL, that will probably be the case. Sad as it may be. Sure wish I was there. But, I will be at the Frozen Four and I hope DU will be there as well. If so, they will win -- mainly because of me! :)

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Yeah, UND fans love to travel, and we do it pretty well thanks :D

I am sure any chance to get the hell out of the god forsaken state is taken advantage of. and, it does a person good to at least look at a tree once a year.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

The X looked way more full than I was expecting for tonights game. Guess there won't be so many empty seats after all. Particularly now with 4 of the top 6 teams in the nation left in the tournament.
The upper deck sides (not the cheap seat ends) probably had a few hundred people on each side total, not each section...other than that the place was pretty full.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

WCHA is happy the Sue didn't lose last night. Then this thing would really have empty seats.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

I think the disallowed goal was the backbreaker for the dogs last night

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Heading to the Cities after a quick lunch with my brother. I'll be with a bunch of guys cuz most of my girl friends don't want to go to a hockey tourney. Oh well. If you're at the game (or around the area) I'll probably see ya without realizing it lol

Hey now...there are trees around the farm houses.

Its always been that way, always will. That's Ok though.....But I can't figure out why other fans from various teams don't like a team that actually plays hockey.

Kind of like gopher hockey players taking advantage of any chance to leave a God forsaken hockey team. :p

Also it does the gophers good to at least come up to North Dakota to see an elite hockey program once a year.:p

Just curious, if UND actually plays hockey, what do the other teams do?

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Speaking of empty seats, it looks to me like Friday attendance at the WCHA Final Five was equal or better than the other tournaments combined, again.

WCHA 27,300 (13 in the afternoon and 14 in the evening)

CCHA: 9,800 (single ticket)
HEA: 12,500 (single ticket)
AHA: 1,800 (single ticket)
ECACHL: not published - a bad sign in itself.
Total: 24,100 plus ECACHL.

Kinda makes you wonder how the other leagues make a go of it.

I've been impressed with the relatively large number of Gopher fans who've turned out.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

People need to keep in mind the 14,000+ they said were there yesterday afternoon and night were sold numbers. There were more than 4,500 empty seats in that arena. I do agree Iam surprised at how many Gopher fans have shown up. Of course half of them are to gutless to have their colors on.:D

Throw in the 15,000 there Thursday for a play-in game and it looks even more impressive. And that 9800 at the Joe was creative accounting. Trust me. It was either that or resort to the N/A the ECACHL went with.

Add in the 15,300 from Thursday's UND, UMD game, and it's even worse. If they just get the 27,000 today, that's still close to 70,000 for the five games (and I'd guess the attendance would be better today than yesterday). No where near the record 92,000 from a few years ago, but not the "Hello Empty Seats" predicted, and no where near what is seen at the Joe or Fleet Center...

I don't know about that. These are paid attendance figures. There were tons of empty seats last night, In fact there was one section on the 200 level that contained only the UND band.

I was personally a little surprised by the Sconni turnout. Not much red in the building, But I guess their diehards went to basketball? They usually travel MUCH better. Sioux/SCSU turnout was impressive.

But you are correct, no where near what happens out east. But 22,000 in lost ticket sales does add up. The Big problem is next year imho. I had 4 of the 8 in my group bail and I probably won't renew those tickets. I suspect there are quite a few Gopher fans in that same position. I'll always keep my 4, but I got stiffed for $600+ this season by people bailing on me. I gave the 4 I was stuck with away, but they are not the type to go when they have to pay for it.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

It ceases to amaze me how clueless people are. Any time anyone anounces attendance figures it is SOLD tickets. Figure it out finally. Plus, it's all that really matters. That's where the money comes from.
