WCHA 2023-2024 Calamity Or Calmness?

WCHA season preview is up and it is notable that the notorious Abbey Murphy had a whole paragraph written about her "game".

From a marketing standpoint they have to put a UM player upfront as that state's state team has the biggest market and the most interest. I'm pretty confident Frosty is NOT enthralled by this extra attention. I hope the refs all read up on her and pay extra close attention to Ms. Chop-N-Slash.

And the landcows continue to stockpile commitments as the get one from Sophie Stramel out of Rosemount HS for 2025. Stramel is the sister of Charlie Stramel, who plays for the BADgers and was the Wild's first round draft pick.

Kinda disappointed in the sinners tonight. They were only able to put up one touchdown and missed the extra point. They did outshoot the lion cubs 65-5 however. Hard to score goals when you only get 5 shots on net for the game.

Wisconsin sneaks by Lindenwood 16 to 1. Three hat tricks.

The breakdown of that total by line (at least as listed on the line chart): First line - 1 goal, Second line - 8 goals, Third line - 2 goals, Fourth line - 4 goals, D players - 1 goal. Three of the four 4th line goals from a player who played D last year (Helgeson).

As Tim asked: how bad is Bemidji?!?

I guess we're going to find out October 20th and 21st.

In other news, the muzzinators are losing. Oh the humanity!

If I'm HockeyBuckeye etal., the response to that is obvious: hey, Wisconsin lost their first game last year, and their season turned out OK...

(But, still...)

Ok Grant. I think it would be really good for the sport if Frosty just forfeited all games against Bemidji. Heaven forbid a great team of crushes a weak one. Wisconsin head two defensemen playing forward on the fourth line for heaven's sake and they allowed like 17 shots on goal, so Lindenwood actually played a better game offensively today than yesterday.

I'll admit OSU looked pretty rusty in most areas and that last missed shot that gave Colgate the two on one for the winning goal was painful to watch. On the plus side they did erase a two goal deficit and we have tomorrow to get the split. Let's see what the Muzzinator does.

Well Timmyboy, the old wcha took it on the chin last week, going 2-2. BSU gets dumped for 2 loses, outshot in both contests. I'm not sure why they haven't shaken up the coaching staff there. It did wonders at St. Cloud. St. Cloud gets the sweep and handily outshoots Union.

Winless WI at the undefeated Woodies.
Franklin Pierce at St. Thomas.
tosu at Colgate in a marque matchup.

Are we looking at another .500 weekend for the wcha?!?

Nope, just tosu letting the conference down. How sad haha.

Lots of N/C this weekend....
BC at UW - why couldn't this series have been played 5 years ago?
UM at RIT - bloodbath
St. Cloud at Mercyhurst - Fascinating series as Mercyhurst is picked by some to win the CHA.
Lindenwood at St. Thomas - great barometer game for St. Thomas (and Lindenwood)
LIU at UMD - bloodbath II
RPI at BSU - RPI and BSU are a bit equal on paper, but BSU got swept by Lindenwood?!?!
MSU at Sacred Heart - Not sure what to make of any NEWHA team vs a WCHA bottom 4 team.

Looks like a 4 loss weekend for the wcha.

I boldly predict OSU will only have 1 win after 2 weekends of regular season hockey.

That would be high-larious...But unlikely. At least they scheduled good teams to begin the year unlike a couple of other WCHA teams.

You missed Tim's point. We have a bye on the 2nd Weekend. So Timothy's quip has already come true!

To your point, I'm glad we've been scheduling Colgate. Hope that series can continue in the future. Don't know what's planned. Just saying I have a ton of respect for Colgate, and the games have been very cool.

My mistake...I just glanced at the schedule and saw UMD as the next opponent for the Yuckeyes not paying attention to the dates.

I feel better that I'm not the only one who has paying attention/comprehension challenges once an awhile. I will admit that was a tricky trap I set. I was of course hoping for a tosu fan or lurking coach to be offended.

WCHA recruiting update...

As mentioned in the Sinner thread, they get a commitment for 2025 from defenseman Mackenzie Jones out of Andover High School.

Not to be outdone by the Landcows, the Tommie Bahamas get a commitment for 2025 from Goaile Nora Hannan out of Edina High School.

WCHA recruiting update...

The Landcows get a commitment from a player who will definitely make the all name team in Mecury Bischoff for 2025.

And the other 2 are sister themed recruits...

The Yuckeyes get a commitment from Sawyer Fleming for 2025 (younger sister of current Yuckeye freshmen Delany Fleming).
The Tommie Bahamas get a commitment from Nora Devries for 2025 (younger sister of current Tommie Bahama freshemn Laine Devries)

WCHA recruiting update...

Don't know for sure but it looks like the yuckeye commitment needs to be revisited. Was she muzzinated?
