WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Shouldn't the coach be able to make that decision for himself instead of being forced to basically suspend a player for 2 games?

So say someone gets suspended for the first game of the wCHa playoffs? And he plays for a team that happens to draw playing at Alaska, should that player not be able to travel to Alaska with the team if he would be expected to play in game 2 and game 3 if necessary?
I'm not certain if the same roster limits apply for the playoffs. As for the regular season, I've seen it done both ways. It helps if you have a versatile player who can play forward and D.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

I had the same thought. Are the rules different if it's an NCAA suspension vs. a league suspension? My understanding is Mitchell's was a league suspension for the head hit and Baylis' was NCAA due to eligibility. Not that any of this matter at this point.
According to Coach Bergeron if a player is on an NCAA suspension he is not allowed to travel with the team, period, even if that suspension ends before the series being played is finished. Given that, Baylis could fly back with the team, but he could not fly there with the team. In essence, his 6 game suspension turns into a 7 game suspension as a result.

But he would then be the 23rd player. You designate your 22 before departure. Those are your players for the weekend.

you lost me. where did 23 come from?
the rest of us were talking about the coach getting the option of having only 21 eligible guys available for the first game, and 22 for the second game when the suspension runs out.
yes, there is some risk in having only 21 guys available for a game. pretty sure the coach would grasp that.

Ok. I was thinking you would travel with 22 to start then have the suspended player join. Thanks. I see where you're coming from. Looking forward to coming to BG next month. Hoping it's a good crowd despite the Turkey break. That place was rockin' when we were there in February and the playoffs. Nice to see the noise!

Northern fans travel well down to BG. Laker fans too. still got a bit of the old CCHA feeling!
****, just realized--I'll be up in Michigan for turkey break and will miss at least the first game. (starts working on a plan to get back for the second...)

A lot of alums in the Detroit area, and since we don't get to Ann Arbor or MSU any more, BG is often the best chance for them to see NMU Hockey.

A contingent of WCHA officials, incl commish Bill Robertson, will meet in Tempe tmrw w/ officials from Arizona State about joining the WCHA

so that's going on today. good luck with that.

I hope the Commissioner’s strategy of having the Nooks throw their game with ASU does not go for naught. ;)

If we get them, great. We can all claim it is the first sign of the NCHC going down the tubes that they can't even get a team in the backyard to join. If we don't get them, great. We can claim mega-schools are not free thinkers and too like minded, not a good fit for the WCHA so we didn't want them, just went to pay our respects much like a distant relative's funeral.

Do we really want an 11 team conference?

I am always skeptical when Let's Play Hockey tweets news about new programs or conference changes. They tend to provide no details, tweet rumors, and generally don't follow up.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Well I would bet that every conference has been invited down to make a presentation, not just us.
Second 11 teams is a problem but maybe we could get Robert Morris, though overall I don't like poaching from other conferences much.
That would help teams like BG, but isn't overall travel too much already. I mean won't ASU increase the travel costs?
