WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

GFMorris, I would read too much into that. Mankato lost a number of key players of last year's squad, and it takes time to adjust. What's left in the cupboard, is likely the most talented group in the league. That team will gel, and that process got started this weekend.

Seriously the most talented group in the league?? Hahaha Mankato fans are the biggest bunch of idiots out there!! BU BC UND UMD UNO and about six other teams have better players but keep up this 0-4 BEST TEAM EVER thing going l, it gives the rest of the leagues fans something to laugh at!

He was obviously referring to the WCHA, you drunk. :p

And even then, it's debatable.

Maybe they just don't like going to Northern. I find it surprising but I'm sure those are part of a two for one agreement.

Actually the Green Bay series was initiated by NMU. The Coach and the guy from PMI which runs the Resch Center worked together with the Anaheim Ducks. The Green Bay games are NMU home games. NMU collects the revenue. The series has been quite profitable for NMU and also serves as a good outreach to the many alumni in the Fox Valley and throughout Wisconsin. There are two years remaining on the agreement.

Didn't know that, I assumed it was Wisconsin being unwilling to travel outside of Wisconsin. So there's one more visit to Madison and one more Green Bay weekend for NMU?

Trust me, I had Mankato in my top three of WCHA rankings coming into the season. Yes, they lost a lot of firepower, but when Gervais, Blueger, and Franklin aren't scoring ...

BG has managed 15 goals in five games, without any PP goals. Without a goal from Brandon Hawkins or any points from Mark Friedman. Without Stephen Baylis, who can return from suspension for the Sunday game in Anchorage.
Mankato's got talent, but they're not the only team adjusting and gelling.

Unfortunately Baylis won't be playing on Sunday. The NCAA in all of their wisdom won't allow a player to travel with the team while they're on suspension and since he's sill suspended for the first game, he's not going to Alaska.

really? never heard that one before...

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Yep. Coach wasn't too happy about that. He could make the trip on his own if he was so inclined but it wouldn't be cheap.

so basically a rule that only hurts hockey so no one else cares...seems silly to punish BGSU for 2 games when if this was a home series, he could play saturday...

Actually if we were playing anywhere else but Alaska or, maybe, UAH it wouldn't be an issue because he could drive there. Of course had we not played the mid-week game with WMU we wouldn't even be discussing this. Just some bad luck in the scheduling, I guess.

Teams can only bring 22 players on a trip. It's not often that teams bring a guy who can't play to Alaska. You designate your travel squad prior to departure. Those are the only players eligible for the weekend. If a player not designated opts to travel at his own expense, it's as a spectator only.

only 20 can play on Friday? What difference does it make if an extra skater is suspended for the first game?

Hey, BG to Huntsville isn't a tough drive — eight hours unless the weather's crap. (Google Maps says nine, but my driving experience says eight.)

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

One extra forward & one extra D. Suppose someone is going njured in practice prior to Friday?

Shouldn't the coach be able to make that decision for himself instead of being forced to basically suspend a player for 2 games?

So say someone gets suspended for the first game of the wCHa playoffs? And he plays for a team that happens to draw playing at Alaska, should that player not be able to travel to Alaska with the team if he would be expected to play in game 2 and game 3 if necessary?

I had the same thought. Are the rules different if it's an NCAA suspension vs. a league suspension? My understanding is Mitchell's was a league suspension for the head hit and Baylis' was NCAA due to eligibility. Not that any of this matter at this point.
