Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Hoping that the Alaskas stay hot, BG can take care of business against Clarkson, and BSU can steal 1 game at Mariucci. A successful non-conference weekend this weekend, and the league should be sitting pretty decent for the long-run. Obviously there are more games, but they will be on a pretty good footing. These games are how the WCHA gets 3 teams in the tourney.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

I don't know a much about Clarkson and they're pretty quiet on the interwebs so there isn't much chatter from their fans. I know they were swept by Vermont last week but, since I don't know much about Vermont, that doesn't tell me much. Vermont was decent last year in Hockey East, though. Still, we won and tied with Colgate last year and tied and lost to Union so I think we should do fairly well. I guess we'll find out tonight.

Clarkson may never score again! Our offense has been very weak (7 goals in 4 games) but our defense has been pretty good (also 7 goals in 4 games). We've used the same goalie for all 4 games and his worst game was this past Saturday - it wouldn't surprise me to see a switch in net in one of these games.

BG ties Clarkson. Great to pick up a point, but these are the games we're going to have to win if we want to be a powerhouse again. Also, Dufour is still leading the nation in goals, now with 7 after tonight.

Ferris defense? Present.

Ferris goaltending? Present.

Ferris offense? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Hell of a start by the Falcons, Friedman may be the key to this years team. Just a terrific puck mover that has made BG's power play very dynamic. I'm fully expecting good crowds for Minny State next weekend, should be entertaining with all the students in costume

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

I didn't think the Falcons looked that good vs. Clarkson. but they'll get better.
the Clarkson broadcasters were puzzled why the d-man Mingo was taking faceoffs, lol. (he went 3-0.)

free streaming from clarksonathletics.tv, how civilized! and I really enjoyed watching a college hockey game without a single $#*@ing "media time-out". and yet, they still managed to air a reasonable number of ads for Frenchy's Ford in Massena and "Between the Buns" on Market St. in downtown Potsdam. And everybody's happy, without the $#*@ing "media time-outs".

Except the media who invest 10s of thousands of dollars to produce those broadcasts.

oh, is coercion/blackmail involved?
or perhaps, maybe, the WCHA could learn something from Clarkson's business model--because it appears to be working rather well.

Don't worry, this is normal. Any hint of ripping on "the media" and davy's in lock-down defense mode.

Those small town media outlets saw a steep increase in their costs with the realignment. From one flight to Alaska in '12-13, to two flights to Alaska plus a flight to Huntsville, plus additional hotel nights plus additional meals. Clarkson's longest trip is 7 1/2 hours by bus. Bemidji only has one trip (Mankato) only has one trip less than that. Same for Bowling Green.

Did you also enjoy watching without a single $#*@ing replay? Or a single $#*@ing statistic? I also appreciated how the archived version cuts off before the game is over.

yep, I enjoyed the good feed and sound, and even the student on-air guys.
you're not really complaining about a free service, are you? good.

While the PWR is mostly useless this early in the season, I think it's worth noting that there are currently six WCHA teams above the cut:

#3. Michigan Tech

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

While the PWR may be useless this early in the season (which I agree), I've always thought it to be a better barometer of the current status of the teams playing than some silly newspaper poll based off sillier football/basketball school rankings.

There IS useful data that is already generated, in that Michigan Tech has the third toughest Strength of Schedule currently. Or that five WCHA teams are currently in the top 11 SOS rankings.
