WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

3-3 last night.

8-7 on the weekend, given the teams that were being played, nothing wrong with that.

LSSU has to be the biggest disappointment of the weekend. Swept by Robert Morris is pretty bad. UAH also got swept, but kept it respectable against CC, so I don't think they should be hanging their head.

MSU splitting @ UNO is ok, if they were in Mankato I would have wanted a sweep, but a split on the road is not bad. The BSU-UND split is a great result for the league. BGSU split with Miami, and the Alaskas dominated on the weekend.

Overall, a successful weekend. And I'm not sure that UAH isn't a better team than LSSU....

Oh what could of been in Bemidji...... UND up 1-0 and BSU on a 4 on 3 power play. UND chips the puck out of the zone, and comes up ice on a 1 on 2 on the right side as a set of matching penalties expire. No one on the Beaver team picks up the guy coming out of the box and he comes in on the left side, receives the pass and has a wide open net to bury the puck into as Walsh didn't have any idea he was there......

UGHHHHHH!!!!!

Three stars for this weekend:

3rd Star - UAH... did way better than I expected out in Colorado Springs, despite two losses.
2nd Star - BSU... a shocker Friday night and another good game Sat night.
1st Star - The entire state of Alaska... four strong wins for the conference only allowing 5 goals in 4 games.

Updated USCHO rankings:

4. Ferris State
12. Minnesota State
19. Alaska
RV: Michigan Tech, UAA, Bowling Green, Bemidji State, Alabama Huntsville

Wisconsin is at 18, despite losing to both Alaska's. UAF is ahead of 1-1 Duluth, but UAA (who played the exact same schedule with the same results as UAF) isn't in the rankings, behind 1-1 Duluth and 0-2 Wisconsin. Goes to show you how pointless this poll is.

44 of the 59 teams are receiving votes..... As much as I like seeing BSU getting some love, it is pretty pointless at this point in the season. UND only dropped one place after splitting with BSU as well. Just doesn't make a lot of sense this early in the year.

Pretty much nailed it. I suppose voters valued UAF higher because they were "neutral" site games. Wisconsin stays ranked because of reputation.

College hockey polls are as useful as locks on the doors to 24-hour 7-Elevens.

The most meaningful poll is this one:
http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/pwr/

And right now, the top teams in the nation are:
1. Clarkson (ECAC)
t2. Alaska (WCHA)
t2. Alaska-Anchorage (WCHA)
4. Minnesota (B1G)
t5. Rensselaer (ECAC)
t5. Minnesota-Duluth (NCHC)
7. St. Lawrence (ECAC)
8. RIT (AH)
9. Notre Dame (HE)
t10. Michigan Tech (WCHA)
t10. Robert Morris (AH)

If any schools deserve a little superscript number next to their names for the next week, it's these eleven teams.

Neither uahstatman nor I have figured out just *** is going on that UAH got votes this week. How about that Saturday result where we got three goals on eight shots, all from defensemen in the same pairing. So weird;;;

Voter revolt?

I have to give my first star to UAH. To come back from where they were, as quickly as they have, says a lot about the coach, about geoff, (profs to you geoff), and the players. Great job!
CC typically get's a one goal advantage just because of the altitude.

The way the team responded in the second period both night was great to see, especially when compared to last season where a lot of early deficits tended to turn into full-fledged blowouts. It seems the team took the hard lessons learned last season to heart, and Coach Corbett has said the team did very well with offseason conditioning.

LOL I wasn't even watching. I was supposed to be out of town this weekend, so UAHstatman was tweeting about the game. I was watching his tweets (and frustrating my girlfriend in the process ... she's new and hasn't figured out hockey yet). But then we almost-won games that I didn't watch, too, so it's not like I'm a jinx or something.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

League announced it awards already ... that's an improvement from year's past when they typically came out on Wednesday ...

Brendam Harms for Offensive Player of the Week
Davis Jones for Defensive Player of the Week
Tad Kozun for Rookie of the Week

They also suspended Brett Cameron for one game for his hit on Wisconsin's Tim Davison ... you can see Kozun's goals and Cameron's hit here ....

That last one warms my heart. Good for them.

Davison was definitely Batman.
That was a vicious hit in real time.

Was it before or after the Anchorage player was run at from behind into the boards by a BADger?
