Re: Virginia Earthquake- every one nervous of irene

That's it. Go up to the cheat menu and turn disasters off.

Could be worse...

Re: Virginia Earthquake- every one nervous of irene

a 5.9 near Mineral, VA. most buildings evacuated as precautions. aftershocks are a concern. earthquakes in the area are usually in the 3. - 4. range. some minor flooding (?) at the Pentagon. small fire in the Dirksen building. minor damage in the Capital. nuclear plants near the quake shut down. all National Monuments and Memorials being evacuated. ceiling tiles down at Reagan National. Washington Monument possibly damaged.

Great. Now Toby Keith is going to write a song about Uncle Sam putting a boot in God's ***.

Sounds to me like someone accidentally bumped the "earthquake button" in the basement of Langley, reserved for when M. Bachmann gets elected Pres.

Re: Virginia Earthquake- every one nervous of irene

nothing to see here. minor structural damage. DO NOT PANIC!! back to the regularly scheduled revolution in Libya.

Re: Virginia Earthquake- every one nervous of irene

I was just having a joke. Brick and the like don't hold up well in earthquakes and 5.8 is a decent sized one.

However 5.8 wouldn't even cause a blink out here.

I was in the 2001 6.8 quake centered near Tacoma, WA and there quite a bit of waving of the hands and panicking. Granted, that is 10x larger, though.

That was a very weird experience, though. I was standing next to floor-to-ceiling glass windows and the only way I can describe it is they looked like running water for a few moments. Then it ended and they were completely undamaged.

Don't forget, much of this region comes to a screeching halt when there's one inch of snow. Snomageddon is 3 in.

There should be Godzilla walking around DC based on reactions.

power and internet didn't go out... i just assumed we'd just go back to work

edit: trains were moving at 15 mph... slow commute home... we got thrown out of the building about 2:30 sent home around 3... waited around for co-workers... got to the station at 3:15... decided to go on a "reverse" train ride... to Branch Ave (one stop) and then back to the city... turned out to be a good idea... got home about 5:10 or so.
