It annoys me the NHL doesn't promote the college players like other sports. We have Howard, Nyquist, Sharp, and Stalburg battling and no mention of the schools they played for in the same league.

While I think more could be done, NBC commentators do seem to deliberately drop colleges' names during games. (In fact, most fans on the internet seem to make fun of Pierre McGuire by the way he tells us where every player went to school.) A lot of NHL fans just see the NHL as hockey and hockey as the NHL. The idea that ice hockey is played at many levels at all ages, including elite levels for the best young players, isn't at the front of many fans' minds. Hockey isn't just a show, but the mindset of "hockey" as a whole rather than just the NHL would help USA hockey in subtle ways, I think. It'll increase casual interest in NCAA hockey.

I feel like I didn't word all of that very clearly, but the more the barrier between the mentalities of "hockey" as watching the NHL and "hockey" as a sport (played by anyone) is reduced, the more those American hockey fans will take interest in college hockey, and the more hockey will become a part of their lives and our culture.

Yes, I know it's pretty narcissistic to quote your own post, but Hockey Inc. is reporting that Shaw has committed to the Cats for next season. He had 70 points & 38 goals in regular season, good for 5th & 2nd in the league respectively, and was 2nd in playoff scoring to Stenerson. Nice to have another big kid up front that can (hopefully) put the puck in the net. ..does look like there could be some heavy competition for playing time next year.

Generally speaking, I hate Pierre McGuire's guts. That being said, the one redeeming quality he does possess is the fact that he does drop players schools that they attended. Just two games ago he mentioned Stalberg and Sharp both coming from UVM. He also dropped Nyquist's experience at Umaine during their second round series with the hawks.

Big, opportunistic skater just scores goals. Hits the net and doesn’t complicate things. Decommitted from Bentley recently.

I'm definitely pretty psyched about the infusion of offensive talent coming in next season. Puskarich, Bradley, Shaw, Stennerson, & Forgione all have talent. Even if only 2-3 of them totally pan out, will be nice additions to McCarthy, Fallon & Reynolds. Could actually have more than one good offensive line and (hope hope) maybe even a Power Play :eek:.

Okay by my count there are what 11 new players 5 seniors left Griem left looks like Rosenthal is leaving and apparently this kid joined mid-season? http://uvmathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2088&path=mhockey So who else is gone? Could make one of the younger players do a year of juniors but that still doesn't add up. Am I missing something? Also noticed that the Anthonie kid who committed when he was 14 is no longer coming to UVM. Just goes to show you how much good that did both parties...

I actually get 12 now coming with Shaw, so yeah, get to the same conclusion. Maybe there are a couple returning players that won't return or else there may be some competition next season. Will have to wait and see the incoming class announcement if there are any clues there.

As for Anthoine, he is going D-III SUNY Geneseo. This is a poster for what can go wrong when you recruit a kid as a 14-15 year old. He was a pretty hot prospect back then but never developed.

Not sure he will see defense that bad in Hockey East. Wow no wonder guys score at will in the BCHL.

Not at all. You probably knew that already. Its been a good Stanley Cup finals, but isnt fun to see Stalberg being scratched and probably will be the entire series. Guessing his time in Chicago will be at an end after this year since he's a free agent I think. At least he gets a chance to maybe get his name on the Cup as a consolation.

Patrick Sharp and Hossa (sp?) are the most dangerous guys on the ice for Chicago (as a Bruins fan). Stalburg has also looked good tonight. Toews and Kane get all the press though....

Viktor notched a shot and a hit in 11+ minutes of ice time tonight; good to see Hockey East represented in the Lord Stanley Cup.

2013-14 Schedule is out nice to see the Cats are easing into the season with 2 versus North Dakota and starting the league with 2 versus Notre Dame sandwiched
around what should be a fun rematch at Penn State.

9 straight home games then 8 straight road games ouch!!

Here is the fall out of only playing each HE team twice we had to pick up 2 non-league games with Maine
to fill out schedule. Also we get to play half of the ECAC including St Lawrence twice.
