Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

+/- can be deceiving:
LeClair is 58th all time in +/-
Eric Lindros is 49th, he's not HoF worry either.

Brian Propp has similar stats to LeClair. Is 25th all time in +/- with a +327. Is he hall worthy?

True it can be deceiving over a year but over a career it tends to be true (look at the career leaders). I still take LeClair over Robitaille. Shanahan over LeClair.

From the Yale AD
The first Liberty Invitational this season at the Prudential Center included Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth and Yale. Hockey East teams will join the Tigers and Bulldogs over the next three seasons.
2014: Princeton, Yale, UConn, Merrimack
2015: Princeton, Yale, Maine, UMass
2016: Princeton, Yale, Lowell, Vermont

Hope the guys left early yesterday and didn't wait until today to try and head for Lowell. They really need to be rested and ready to hit the ice at 100% from the drop of the buzzer on through. These are must win and more importantly winnable games for the Cats. I want to see this team make the NCAA's where I think they can actually surprise a few teams in a one and done format.

The rest of us will continue to shovellllllllllllllllllll

Just curious, how much did y'all get? I heard about 26" where I used to live. With all due respect to Snwbrder, that's one of the few things about VT I don't miss.

It's really hard to tell as it has been very windy. I cleaned 6" or so last night before bed. This morning there was anywhere from 30" in some drifts to 6" where the wind had blown it off. I would venture a guess that at my house near St. Albans we got 18" or so between yesterday afternoon and this morning. It has finally stopped, but there is a chance for minor accumulation through the next few days. It is March right?

I'm sure they did; most teams are smart enough to avoid such issues. Hope you guys all got dug out safely. Err, I mean, I hope yer scummy cars and up in a ditch so you miss the game. :D

Good catch, almost sounded like a nice guy there for a minute :)

Being realistic, I think this is two close games but a sweep for UML. But I hope not. Cats just have not played up to their abilities that last few weekends except in net - although they have really little pressure on them, that might help them loosen up and fly. Hope they win one and sneak into the NCAA tourney. Go Cats.

I don't know, these teams are split pretty evenly all time (18-15-6 riverhawks). I'm expecting three games and I'm not really sure which way it goes. Just hoping for some great hockey. There don't seem to be any real glaring advantages for either team right now either. Anyway, obviously want my Hawks to win but good luck to you guys.
Let's just get this game started!

Even not playing up to their abilities they beat UML so while a sweep is certainly possible I would have to think that UVM wins one of these games... They really should be fired up and ready to go. This is a best of three so some of the tentivness in the UMA game should be gone... thats win or go home... the 3 game set will allow them to be more aggressive.

I think it will ultimately come down to the mental preparedness coming into the game... if they are tight worrying about the PWR it might not be a good thing... on the other extreme if they come out hitting hard and the refs think it's a womens hockey game they could be in trouble too. But if they come out loose and with some energy they will be fine.

From the HE blog. Need to win one to remain in contention.....

No. 7 seed Vermont: It seems crazy to imagine, but both Vermont and Notre Dame have might brighter NCAA futures than New Hampshire, Northeastern and Maine. If Vermont advances past Lowell, the Catamounts will end the weekend between sixth and 13th in the PairWise (likely between 7th and 10th). If they lose the series 2-1 all hope is not lost. Vermont likely would end the weekend between 13th and 15th in the PairWise and still have a shot, though unable to control its destiny. Should the Cats gets swept, even, there would be a reason to keep practicing as they would finish the weekend anywhere from 12th to 18th, and most likely 15th.

I think they should definitely be able to win one. But Hellebuyck is a top notch tender and that could very well lead to a sweep. But as the article says they would most likely finish 15th... which is still in provided there's no obscure upset. But yeah they need to win one... hell they need to win both. While I personally consider making the NCAA tourney the ultimate goal over the HE championship there's no reason to discount either.

The wildcard is the ECAC. Yale or Colgate moving up could cause problems. We need union/q to win out and we might squeek by...but I think we have to win 1.

UML is high in the power rankings, so getting swept should still leave the Cats in the tourney. Will fall to a number 4 seed, which could be one and done, but sometimes with nothing to lose (e.g umass), you can get overlooked and have a shot. I'll be there tomorrow!!

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Well, either UVM win's tomorrow and they move on to game three, or they lose and with a little luck it is the end of the Kevin Sneddon era at UVM. Potentially positive outcome either way.

Don't look at it that way... Use the RPI first... Could of smart calculations will give you the RPI in case of loss (just change the win pctg). After that to me it's mostly seeing how many outsiders can still get the auto
