Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Reynolds loss is a big one but despite what happened I don't think you can throw all the Canadian schools out with the dishwater. For the most part games with Canadian schools have been clean.

As an alternative what about playing a game every year with the Under 18's?

I don't see why we can't throw out all the Canadian teams? I disagree with the schools being clean... the exhibition games have always been chippy. It's rare to have quite such an extreme example, but they are always chippy. They play a different style, they are older, and they are less talented so they goon it up. But rarely are they good clean games.

The US-18 has been played in the past the first weekend, however they are schedule by a lot of teams that first weekend. While it could be done on a rotational basis, I doubt you would ever see it happen every year.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

That is a bummer about Reynolds. Rehab all summer and then get hurt in a pre-season exhibition on a dirty play. That is just plain unlucky. He's a top four forward so it really hurts the already very thin scoring depth. He's also older so definitely questionable of getting long term benefit of a 5th year with redshirt.

I missed the Saturday exhibition but attended on Sunday. Was not overly impressed with the play of the freshmen, which concerns me. I did like what I saw of Bradley. I think Shaw may become a real high contributor also. Not sure about the others. Hamilton looked good on PP. Santa never really got tested enough to make a judgment.

Hope they surprise NoDak and at least squeak out a tie. go Cats

What gives with four home games after Jan 4? That is simply weird and will not help build the fan base. The early season games compete with holiday travel, parties, etc. It's January through March that the fans want home games for something to do.... Luck of the draw I guess. Oh well, hopefully it snows a lot!

I Just hope they don't get embarrassed.

I don't think that will happen. UND has a lot of unproven players and nobody who can dominate, on either offense or defense. Most UND fans seem to think UVM will play them close in at least one game, possibly both.

Through one in ND and it was a good period. Let's see how the rest of the game turns out.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Not sure if this was posted in a previous thread, but there was something on USHR about Ryan Rosenthal "officially" decommitting.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

well 5-3 isnt' embarrassing, although 4 unanswered goals is... hopefully UVM can even it up tonight. Sounds like a fair amount of special teams action... that is definitely not in UVM's favor....

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

We didn't embarrass ourselves and ND is a very good team, BUT it is just another loss and we blew a 2 goal lead. Hopefully we can build on this, but I'm long past looking at these kinda games as moral victories.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

On the bright side 3 freshman got first goals. I thought Vermont played very well for a first game in a tough rink
against a team with 15 draft picks. We surely were not outclassed. 2 of UND goals were flukey as was our first.
Another game with alot of Pens but unlike the games last week most of these looked legit(Pags pen to put us 2
down was probably the weakest)

Santa was good but maybe to agressive at times and commited early, also needs to make better plays when he handles
the puck otherwise stay in net. Most of his clears went to UND players.

I liked the feed, and replays were nice. And for once the announcers were not blind homers who only see one way.

Powerplay while not perfect was doing a better job of moving the puck and not standing around hopefully we can get
a unit to gel along the way.

All in all I am very hopefull. If UND is supposed to be a elite team we are not that far behind.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Vermont has to learn to clear the puck. Hamilton is the only one who clears it..everyone else just put it on a UND stick.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Decent game tonight by UVM but the posts were a big help. Hamilton had a good weekend but terrible give aways last minute of this game. At least UVM looks like they can move the puck around..

1 point from a UND squad that looks like the worst edition in many years is nothing to get giddy about.....although for UVM it probably is the highlight of the year.
