Yeah. Right. Dope.

No need for sensitivity it wasn't meant as a slight against BC. It clearly didn't phase them at all and they did what they do. They create goals effortlessly and in the end won both games relatively comfortably.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

While I will say the Refs had no input on the result of the game they sure were pathetic. Gravellesee looked like he was having a fit in the second period and
the linesmen kept making errors on calls. And would someone please tell those two linesmen to grow a pair and bend over alittle when dropping pucks for faceoffs.
They were chucking them from a standing postition and pulling away like a little girl.

A question for BC fans. I will admit #13 is the most talented offensive player in HE if not the country but what is with the big brother complex his linemate #24 has?
Both games he got penalties roughing someone who was only in JG's face. Can he stand up for himself? I understand if someone cheapshots him or knocks him down
but skating next to him and giving him a little lip is something else. Life isnt going to be fun in the NHL if you cant stand up for yourself.

if what you're saying is true i would say arnold went a little too far in that he came away with penalties. other than that i wouldn't have a problem with it. in fact that's what i want from my team. arnold is a great player and teammate, just has to be smart in those situations.

don't play dumb though. at the next level, gaudreau will get his *** kicked if he tries to take on a tough guy mentallity and "stick up for himself".

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

and i realize every opponent will try and get under gaudreau's skin but he's just not built to respond physically on his own. it is what it is.

look at him and answer that for yourself. I'm pretty happy our big guys get in the faces of the tough guys that mess with the little bahstid

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Why did the Kings have McSorley? Could Wayne not defend himself? Hmmmmmmm. Maybe point scoring machines can't score points in the box? Yathink? Maybe? Nah.

Anyway this year BC has done very well keeping scum at bay when they get stupid with Gaudreau. With Santini out there if you pull any nonsense there is a legit chance he will make you feel pain. McCoshen as well. It's much better than last year.

Nice moral victories this weekend.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

i would add that if gaudreau was running around cheap shotting people and then hiding behind teammates, that would irritate me. but that's just not in his game.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

You put the entire weekend outcome on the coaching staff. How can you play 2 lines against 4 and expect any different outcome. BC outplayed UVM physically....but last year UVM was one of the toughest teams to play against. Where did all the hitting go? The two best hitting D men in Pattyn and Walls barely got to play and if they made a hit and got a penalty they never seen the ice again for several shifts. You cant play a team like BC and give them a soft ride you have to make it hard, uncomfortable downright miserable to be in our zone. Its too easy to play in our end with our supposed top 4 soft D men. Hamilton is scared of his own shadow and will turn away from a hit any chance he can or throw the puck away because of pressure. What happened to the play from the start of the season where the lines were rolled and all players were in the game? I guess there is a reason why the asst coaches were fired from their previous teams.....

Friday night Arnold or whomever it was over reacted. I don't remember which UVM player it was but they were skating next to each other and their was some smack talk going on... absolutely NO pushing shoving or anything at all that would indicate it was going to get physical and Arnold just came over and gave the UVM guy a cheap shot... and then took a trip to the box.

I certainly expect JG's linemates to stick up for him. He does not have the physical stature to do so against most other players. But I agree with Cat Lover that his linemates are little over reactive to it. I can see if someone is giving him a whack with stick or taking liberties but no need to get all hot and bothered over a few words.

I'm going to disagree with pretty much all of this. Pattyn and Walls scared me everytime they took the ice. Sure they're physical but the limited ice time was due to their quality of their defensive play ... which was lacking.

It probably had more to do with what precipitated before that when JG was being checked and harassed than what happened at that moment. Teams that physically go after JG will hear sooner or later the message to leave JG alone or else we will stick up for him.

they may over react because those "liberties" they take are just about every shift in every game. You got a small sample size, we see every game. Same things, different teams , game after game

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Not sure what you see but they are the only D pairing that are not getting scored on regularly. Why do you say their defensive ability is lacking? Examples?

The first shift saturday night Walls looked lost, misplayed the puck twice before getting it from the goal line to the blue line.

As for them not getting scored on regularly...

#5 and #4 are a combined +10
#2 and #25 are a combined +6
Pattyn and Walls are at +3

Pattyn was on the ice for 2 out of the 3 even strength goals Friday...

And the final reason is penalties... do you want BC to get 7-8 power play chances in a game and Walls takes too many deserved or not. But I will concede this weekend they weren't the worst d-men on the ice. That honor belongs to Paliotta who just totally blew it on the short handed goal, I mean come on get a stick on that guy at least.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

The weekend was about what I expected. UVM plays it's heart out, outplays the opposition for long stretches, can't finish enough against decent goaltending, has a couple of lapses and it ends up in our net each time. UVM has dominated it's opponents in many losses this year, at least this weekend that was not the case, it was pretty even in terms of puck possession. UVM can beat anyone in HE except BC. BC is in a class of it's own.

UVM needs to get three points each of the next two weekends. They are very capable of that if they get decent goaltending - which is questionable. I would go back to Hoffman or the rotation - Santa on Friday, Hoffman on Saturday. Santa is ok but he does not make the saves that make a difference in a tight game.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Can someone answer this for me: Multiple time this weekend Gravallese (sp? ), was the ref in the neutral zone, while the other ref was in the end where the play was going on, and Gravallese called penalties. Is Gravallese within his right to make a call when he's 60-70 ft away from the play? Shouldn't that responsibility fall on the ref who is right there on the puck?

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

i don't think that's limited to him or this weekend. happens all the time in this league and it drives me crazy.

I think he can make the call but he probably shouldn't unless its blatant and obvious. Still, he wasn't nearly as bad as Cronin blowing the whistle on accident and flubbing calls. The officials really struggled Saturday... just oddly bad.
