Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Now the ref that called a trip when UVM was down 2 and the puck didnt change possession or advantage hasnt been around

The trip was a good call. Change of possession has nothing to do with the call. The issue was the penalty prior those should have been matching.

Not the best officiated weekend.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Nice to see the Cats finally get it a little recognition in the HE blog. Now they need to back it up with a pair of strong games this coming weekend. scary to think they only have six RS home games remaining. That is just weird. Looking forward to the Dartmouth game if my car starts....

Yeah, that was nice. Not often there's a "Page 1" article about the Cats, especially given our play in recent years. Disappointing though that the article was largely about the Catamount Cup using recycled quotes that were already out there. Oh well.

Also kinda cool that we cracked the top 20 in the weekly poll, although some of the teams in front of us are kind of ridiculous, most notably Notre Dame at #14. Fortunately the rankings don't mean jack and we're much higher in PairWise where it really counts. Plus, a nice win against Yale tomorrow will go a long way toward changing people's perception. Can't overlook Dartmouth though, which is feeling a little like a "trap" game to me. Go Cats.

Hey guys longtime UVM hockey fan here. Didn't realize people were talking about my favorite team on the web! Gonna have to read through some of these pages later and weigh in on the current state of affairs.

Excited about the game tonight vs Dartmouth and hoping we can make it through this weekend 2-0. Glad to find this forum thread and looking forward to chatting with you all the rest of the season.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Hey guys. I am a life fan of the Cats, have been going to the games since I was 6. As I get older I find myself getting frustrated with not really feeling like I don't know what is going on with the team. Hopefully joining this forum will help. I'm certainly not going to get any information from Ted Ryan or Alister Ingram. With that said, anyone know why Brickley hasn't been in the line up the last 2 games? I can guess that it has something to do with flapping his lips at the Clarkson game, but that's a guess.

Brickley was dinged up but maybe Sneddon is giving someone else more playing time as Brickley has really been struggling
to score any points. With the 1st and 4th lines playing so well it leaves about 10 guys fighting to play in the middle2 lines.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Thanks Cat lover. What avenues of info do you use? I listen to pre and post game, read BFP articles, and constantly visit hockey east and UVM websites, but can never seem to get any "behind the scenes" info. I am new to forums like this. Is this the way? Thanks again. And I agree, NEW ARENA.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Don't know why you don't think you get good information from Ted Ryan. He is always on top of things, and does a super job covering the Cats! The hockey program is very tight lipped on many fronts, and his weekly conversations with coach Sneddon provides as much info as anywhere. Unless you have a connection with players or staff, he is as good as it gets!

I agree, Ted Ryan's articles on the "On Campus" blog on the free press website provides the best information on UVM hockey. The link is below:

Hoping for a win tonight against Yale!

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

I guess I just get frustrated with his post game interviews. If you listen closely he never asks any questions. I understand he is supposed to just get Sneddon to talk, so he can quote him for the article. I just wish instead of leading him in to talking he would ask a point blank questions about the game. Like, "what was the refs explanation to you about that call?" Something less vague, more direct. Maybe I am just use to NHL media giving coaches a tougher time. I'll check out the blog.

Great game last night. Disappointed with the tie with Dartmouth, but I will take a tie with the defending national champ any night.

I have to agree with Mule on this one. While I appreciate Ted's efforts, especially since my understanding is he is semi-retired, the local media refuse to not only ask the tough questions, but ask any questions at all. A typical post game press conference consists of Ted saying a bunch of sentences, none of which end with a question mark, and then coach saying "you're right Ted" and elaborating a bit. A simple question like "coach, why did Brickley sit for 2 games?" is easy ask and something the fans would be interested in hearing. Even a vague response would give a clue as to whether it was health or performance related.

After the Dartmouth game there were other reporters in the room, probably to cover the big green, that actually asked real questions. It was great!

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Ok so youtube embedding doesn't seem to work in this forum. Bummer.

Anyways great weekend of hockey. The tie with Dartmouth was unfortunate. UVM created way more legit scoring opportunities we just couldn't put anything away. In the end Dartmouth is much better then their record would indicate. They recently lost by a goal to Providence and tied Northeastern 8-8. Solid team just having a tough season and fought hard Friday night.

The Yale game was incredible. UVM came back from a goal down multiple times and the final goal from McCarthy with about a minute left was probably the best moment of the season for me aside from Puskarich scoring the winning goal vs Notre Dame earlier in the season.

Really enjoying the team this year. We've had some disappointing seasons in recent time but this year things seem to be coming together. The best part is a lot of the players I see as having the biggest impact are underclassmen. Even if this team ends up middle of the pack hockey east, for the first time in a long time it feels like we have a solid foundation to build on as opposed to the feeling we are still in a long rebuilding process.

Oh yeah and Brickley smashed the plexiglass on a hit last night for those who don't know. He may have never found his scoring touch during his time in Burlington, but he brings a psychopathic game changing intensity that nobody else on the team brings. He was penalized and it took about 20 minutes to clean up and replace the glass, but that was a game changing moment at a time when it felt like Yale was taking over.

Furthermore...I am a huge fan of Forgione. Puskarich came in as the most hyped recruit and he's living up to a lot of it, but this kid Forgione is gonna be good. He's a crazy explosive skater and works harder than anybody else on the ice. Big part of the reason we are killing over 90% of penalties at home and he's beginning to make an impact on offense.

Good to escape the weekend without a loss, but would have been nice to come away with a win. Either way the Cats have been playing the top teams all season long and competing with them. Nice to see them be competitive no matter whose on the other side of the ice.

I agree with you about a number of things.

I've been consistently impressed with Forgione mostly because he seems to do smart things with the puck and as was pointed out on the PK. Good teams need solid role players. Initially I thought Sneddon was screwing up / not getting the match ups he wanted when I consistently saw Massar / Turk / Forg (the "4th line") on the ice against the opposing teams "top line" but they have been doing a great job.

I also agree about the post game interviews. Do they have an agreement on what sorts of topics / questions are off limits?

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Looks like we notched up a couple positions to #18 in the national rankings.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Agree on Forgione. I keep thinking this kid is going to be fun to watch for the next 3.5 seasons. And Markinson is FAST. Man if he could only handle the puck and shoot better. Turk seemed a bit lost last year but is playing nicely with Massar and Forgione. Massar is having a very nice season also.

Not happy that Fallon was healthy scratch (as I was informed). I wonder if his past behavioral issues are showing up again. he is a heck of a player, 2nd in ability next to McCarthy among forwards IMHO. Bradley is pretty good and that line still potted all three goals but I felt like that line was still let impressive and less physical without him out there.

Maybe they leave Bradley and move Fallon to one of the other lines that is not as dangerous and we end up with three dangerous lines instead of the current two. Very difficult schedule ahead in conference, will be lucky to end up over .500 in conference but every game should be hard fought.

Still not sold on Santiguida, having said that, Fallon gave up a weak goal to Dartmouth.

No home games for six weeks. Brutal. Go Cats.
