Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Ok, I have seen enough of Santaguida to be concerned every shot is going in no matter whether it's a grade A opportunity or not. He's small, he needs to be GREAT to be average and he is not great every night. Hoffman is not spectacular but he is better and more pucks hit him and he rarely EVER gives up a stinker. Santa keeps on giving...... Please play Hoffman 75% of the time

UVM outchanced NU by a large margin, swap goaltenders and the Cats have two points.

I have to agree with you based on a the little bit I have seen Santaguida. I hate to say it but unfortunately the goalie position is now designed for tall players. They go into the butterfly and need to be tall enough to still cover the upper parts of the goal and small guys just can't do it. With today's composit sticks the shots are coming so fast the small guys can't get back out of the butterfly to block the high shots. I suppose if they have a lightning fast glove and blocker they might have a chance but in today's game I am not sure human reflexes can even be that quick. The NHL is now dominated by big goalies for a reason.

I don't totally disagree, but I also don't agree entirely. I think Santa is a very capable tender. He has been outstanding several times... and good the rest of the time. When you only see a tender once a week I think games that aren't so great tend to stand out and be magnified.

That said, I agree that at this point I think Hoffman has an edge over Santaguida and should probably see more ice time.

I'm not a fan of rotations at all. While I think it's nice in that opponents are seeing a different goalie and have to prep for two styles, if (as Sneddon is doing) you have a rigid rotation it's not such an advantage. Which tender starts should not be a known or you eliminate the advantage. The negatives are the team must play differently in front of each guy and that requires a constant adjustment, I think it's also a negative from the goalies standpoint as well. There is a reason York rides a single guy down the stretch typically. He gives them the first half to establish themselves and then picks one for the home stretch. It's time Sneddon switches it up some and I hate to say it because I really like Santa, but at this point I would agree that Hoff needs to be the #1 guy with a few starts here and there for Santa.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

I don't post much, but I read it every day. Didn't you say this in November about the decision to play Hoffman after the first Maine game:

Nice job to the Coaching staff who took a team that was playing well together with confidence in front of an outstanding goaltender and ****ing that up. Hoffman played great but thats really irrelevant. Clearly through the past years the coaches have learned that the mental aspect isn't important at all. This is what the decision to start Hoffman says "hey its only ME lets get Hoff some ice time... " and the players responded with that mentality. Sneddon's quote said it all.... they were outworked. ...... Has to be one of the dumbest things the coaches could have done...

I think they have a good goalie rotation going right now. I expect to see both Santa and Hoff during the remaining non Hockey East portion of the season. I'd guess it will be a pure split to keep them both game fresh. Let's hope someone gets a hot hand. I expect Sneddon will play the hot hand during the Hockey East schedule in January through March.

And Merry Christmas!

Hello. Apologies if this was previously asked, but will there be a video stream of the 4pm games this weekend? Thanks in advance.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Watching the Clarkson game on the internet Good feed and good radio work. Cats need to finish some of their chances though. 2 on 0 and several other wasted opportunities may cost them this game

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Nice to see the Cats finish off Clarkson, good win. Too bad they did not bury a few more chances and increase the differential to give themselves a better chance at winning the tourney, but the W was more important. Go Cats.

Santaguida gets the start tomorrow but I think Hoffman should get the bulk of the HE games....he seems to be playing better overall.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

4th line rules!!!

Forget the stat sheet this line should be listed 2nd right now as they have been the most effective in the
last few games. 1st line is the best no doubt but if you notice in the last 2 minutes last night Sneddon was only
using the 1st and 4th lines to end the game. Not the lines with all the upperclassmen.

Really poor play by the Clarkson dman who clearly didnt get that MaCarthy was not coming for him but
was going for the behind the net pass the whole time, but he just goes and gives it right to him with his
other dman also behind the goalline thats asking for trouble.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Congratulations on your 'win'. Does it feel as good when you don't actually play the other game's winner for the title?

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Thanks for the trophy. At the end of the season you won't be able to dodge Lowell with a ridiculous "tournament" schedule.

Congrats to the River Hawks on a thoroughly dominant performance. They were the best team on the ice this weekend, and it wasn't even close.

Umm whatever.. UML played well and UVM played well...they are next to each other in the Pairwise..so they will play it out on the ice.

Now I'm gonna have to look at a number line here, but last I checked I don't remember 8 (Lowell's current spot in the PWR) being "next to" 12 (Vermont's). And that's with 11 of Vermont's 17 games played at home. You're really doing it. Now about that 4-5-0 record in-league...

As for playing out on the ice, they could have done it this weekend, but I understand not wanting to get humiliated on your home ice THREE times in a season. Twice will have to do.

That's some big talk from a team that hasn't won anything yet. You must have a serious inferiority complex....can't just be glad you won your games you have to ***** about something.

Please remind me what Vermont has won in the last five years. If you guessed "52 out of 162 games" (52-87-23) you are correct.

And how many NCAA titles have you won? If you don't win it all it really doesn't matter... but if UVM doesn't win it all at least they are in Burlington a hell of lot better than being in Lowell
