Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

A home and home vs UMass this weekend, here are a couple things I'd like to see:

- At least 3 points out of the weekend
- Santa to get the start in net both games and at the very least start him tonight (the team seems to play better in front of him, and a win tonight would set the tone for Sunday)
- Some production out of the powerplay
- And no stupid penalties (play hard, but in control).
- Brickley to put the puck in the net.

Totally agree. Only thing I would add is that I hope to see Walls back in the line up.

According to Ted Ryan's article in today's BFP, Sneddon sees no reason to change the Hoffman/Santaguida goalie rotation. Thus, you won't see Santa in goal both games.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

“Our power play hasn’t looked as good in four years. Our penalty kill is over 90 (percent) in league. Our discipline in terms of our structure forecheckwise is solid,” he said. “We’re not giving up goals off D-zone coverage. Teams aren’t cycling against us and creating offense. If you look at the six goals scored on the weekend, four were off us handing it over.”

After reading that article I had to correct Mr. Sneddon on a few things.

#1 He didn't lose the game last Saturday because of these turnovers, you lost BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T SCORE!. Hello????

#2 The power play is clipping along at a fantastic 11%, same as last year which was 11%. The year before that it was 14% and the year before that 15%.(Conference only statistics). SO....its WORSE. What happened two years ago that there is such a sudden drop? Hint: Peter

#3 His comments should read more like this "our scoring offensive production is the worst it has been in the past 4 years at 1.67 goals per game and has come down steadily since 2009 when we went to the frozen four and it was 2.89 goals per game" because that is a true statement and not "spin".

Again..offense wins in this conference in my humble opinion.

The good news:
- 2 points.
- A couple powerplay goals for.
- No powerplay goals against.
- Hoffman seemed to settle down after the first minute.

The bad:
- UVM gives up two goals in the first minute. I don't know if they were Hoffman's fault or not, but again the team doesn't come out ready to play in front of him.
- the big guns (Fallon, McCarthy, Brickley etc) were kept off the stat sheet.

Hoping for a sweep on Sunday!

Anyone else watch that pathetic excuse of a broadcast? $10 to watch ads pop up during play, heck we missed
the second goal and all of those scrums that resulted in penalties. They even cut away during the last
minute of play. So frustrating to be watching play and then have a screen full of crap.

Terrible start but great rebound for the Cats after the first minute. Rare Desenzo siting he looked pretty good.
Powerplay was better amazing what happens when you shoot. Not sure how much blame to give Hoffman
on those goals as the first the camera was not zoomed in and the second the screen was full of crap celebrating
the first goal.

Agreed. We score 3 goals and get some pp production and we win! Awesome comeback.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Anybody else notice the UMass coaches avoiding a post game handshake with the UVM coaches? That normal or is there some tension? Wouldn't be too surprised either way but I thought sneddon normally shook hands with the opposing coaches after the game.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

First sweep of the season, and the first series win for the Cats. I think winning a series this year is going to go along ways in playoff seeding. It's going to be a nightmare figuring out tie breakers.

Either way, happy to Santa get his first shut out. He's been solid and the team plays well in front of him.

Those were points the team needed and they went out and got them. Nice Job!!!

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

It is encouraging to see them beat a team they should beat. The conference is tough this year. They have to take points everywhere they can. Problem being that they gave up 2 points to ND and 2 points to PC in games they largely controlled.

Overall encouraging though.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

A little off topic, but does anyone know when they sold these jerseys?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...st-non-nhl-hockey-jerseys-of-all-time/page/23

And more importantly, who sold them and are they still available? My son wants a jersey for Christmas and googled this one.

Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure they were ever sold? The list is just the best non-NHL jerseys...

They do have a sweatshirt however currently in the bookstore that looks very similar.

FYI - from USHR twitter.
USHRþ@USHRhockey
6'2", 200 lb. Westminster D Joe O'Connor, a repeat soph, has committed to UVM for '16. '96 birthdate played for Hamden (Conn.) HS last year.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Kind of too bad to have to play these NC games against conference foes. Would be more fun to play an old ECAC foe. But still better than no hockey. Maine has only lost one game at home - to UVM. Go Cats, we need to break out and put up a touchdown one of these nights like the Red Wings did on the B's

Do like watching this team much better than past few years. I hope we get a good crowd tonight. Go Cats.
