Big games this weekend between 1 and 2 in the conference hopefully at Wessman. Even though I miss Lenny Rampone this series should be a pretty good one. Any thoughts?

Is the ice ready at the Wessman for this weekend's games?
Know they moved games to the DECC recently.

Re: uws vs st norberts

With the point lead that these two teams have over the rest of their NCHA foes (SNC with a two point margin over Superior), the sqaud that could sweep this weekend would be the odds on favorite to take the NCHA regular season crown. Only three weekends of conference games remain after the completion of this week's Fri/Sat competition. A series split will likely result in the series championship going down to the final weekend of the regular season.
Let's take a look at how these two teams compare statisically.
OFFENSE
Goals for: SNC -- 63 in 17 games. 3.71 average. SUPERIOR -- 62 in 17 games. 3.59 average.
Players with 10 or more points: SNC -- nine. SUPERIOR -- five.
Power Play %: SNC -- 19.5%. SUPERIOR -- 15.7%.
DEFENSE
Goals Allowed: SNC -- 25 in 17 games. 1.47 average. SUPERIOR -- 46 in 17 games. 2.71 average.
Penalty Kill %: SNC -- 89.6%. SUPERIOR -- 86.8%
Goalie Comparison: SNC -- O'Brien has played 91.9% of all minutes. 1.56 GAA. 91.9 save %.
SUPERIOR -- Tinham has played 56% of all minutes. 2.51 GAA. 90.2 save %.
Standberg has played 44% of all minutes. 2.75 GAA 91.3 save %.
Tinkham has started three straight games. Could be the favorite to start both games this weekend.
Overall Assessment:
1 -- SNC has the advantage in all offensive comparisons.
2 -- SNC has the advantage in all defensive comparisons.
3 -- SNC has the advantage in all goalie comparisons.
4 -- Superior has the home ice advantage. I would expect two of the better crowds of the season at the Wessman for this series.
I will be there to share in the festivites.
Always an interesting experience at the Wessman. Jusk ask Mr. Popcorn!!!

Pete:

Make sure Mr. Popcorn wears his hard hat. I understand that the Soup AD has been working out on the speed bag! As far as the games, It looks like SNC is stronger in all of the area's that you mentioned. As you know, this is why they play the game though. I will add that SNC will have to play much stronger and more focused than they were last week to come out of this weekend with the points that they need.

Re: uws vs st norberts

My memory sucks, so would I be correct in saying Wessman is an olympic sheet?

Re: uws vs st norberts

I'm predicting a split in this series. No concrete reason to think St. Norbert would drop 2 points here, but if there's a team in the NCHA that could split with them right now - it's UWS.

You cetainly could be correct here as Soup is always tough. I think the potential difference maker could be O'Brien in net for SNC. He has been solid all year and it seems that the Soup goaltenders have not been as steady. Should be a great weekend of hockey.

Re: uws vs st norberts

What is the reason for SNCs average play up there? Just good UWS teams?

I am not sure what you are basing your comment of average play, but I can tell you that historically, Soup has always been tough at home specifically and that they have always had tough teams with the possible exception of last year. Additionally, I would imagine that Soup always plays a bit tougher against SNC, a rival and typically one of the "teams to beat" in the NCHA.

In checking into this further, it appears that the games will be at the Wessman. UWS mens hockey site states this as the location.
However, the Jacket Hockey site states that the location and time for the Friday/Jan. 21 game is TBD???

Re: uws vs st norberts

The St. Norbert-Superior series has been moved to THURSDAY AND FRIDAY at UM-Duluth's Amsoil Arena due to continued refrigeration problems at Wessman Arena. Thursday's game is set for 8 p.m. and Friday's game is set for 2:30 p.m.

Have you taken in games at the Wessman before?

Yes, 4. Looks like it will stay that way for awhile now though.I'll have to catch these games on the web. I should be able fo make it to Appleton now though for one of the Adrian games

wow - we were planning on coming for Fri/Sat series, not sure we can make it now....thanks for posting the change!

Re: uws vs st norberts

The venue change could impact any home ice and atmosphere advantage. How I look at all series on the road against a good opponent, come out fast in game 1 and secure a couple of points then see if you can pick up anything in game 2. SNC wasn't very sharp for most of last weekend so I'm hoping going on the road gets their attention. If they won one game with a solid team effort and O'Brien stole a point or two the other night I'd be OK with it. I guess the approach they need to take is win there now and you won't have to go back there.

From Jackethockey.com

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has announced that the men's hockey games scheduled for this weekend versus St. Norbert College will be played at Amsoil Arena, as the repairs to the refrigeration system at Wessman Arena continue.

The games will be played Thursday, January 20 at 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 21 at 2:30 p.m.

"We realize that this isn't perfect for anyone involved. We know it is inconvenient for St. Norbert as they have to travel a day earlier than expected and have to adjust their entire weekend schedule. And obviously for us we don't get to play at home like we would want to," Athletics Director Steve Nelson said. "But we have to deal with the situation. Ice for the weekend here, in just about every building is already booked, and this was the best available time for us."

Parking for the games will be in the main ramp at the DECC, at a cost of $4 per-vehicle. Spectators are to use the main Amsoil Arena entrance, where they will be able to purchase their tickets upon entry. Ticket prices will remain the same as they would if the game were played at Wessman Arena: Adults - $8, Senior citizens and non-UWS students - $5. UWS students and children under the age of six are admitted free.

Both games will once again be available on the web through UW-Superior's online partner, AmericaOne. And as usual, both games will be broadcast on KUWS, 91.3 FM in Superior.

Here we go, another home series....not at home! Sure it will be fun to check out the new barn in Duluth but this will only mean smaller crowds and less dramatics. UWS played two games at the old DECC arena a few weeks back and the crowd support was terrible...never felt anything close to home ice. Will the team be affected? That is my big question, and something that can't be answered until 9 pm tomorrow.
