UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Absolutely great game in my opinion. I really hope we stick with those lines. Colton looked better at center than he did on either wing, so I'd like to see him stay there (played first period at center). Misley is starting to grow into the college game, showed signs of life tonight. Bowen looked great as well.

I agree. I thought each of the top 3 lines looked excellent and Kaufman on the fourth was good too. That kid has some wheels and dangles.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Seems like the coaches are getting line combinations sorted out. Colton centering for Privitera and Puffer worked well. Let them build some chemistry. Alvaro, Darrar, and Bowen have played together the last two games and are producing. That should be the top two lines that dress every game.

Lodermeier worked well centering for Misley and Esposito and that should be the third line until Blanleil is back. I think Lodermeier has been the most consistent center on the team.

For the fourth line I think you swap that entire line each game between Best/Kaufman/Petruzzelli and Cowans/Coughlin/O'Neil.

That is my uninformed opinion.

Lodermeier to me is like vanilla ice cream. Sure there's sexier names with more flash, but he gets the job done consistently.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

After 8 games, the Cats have only 3 players (O'Donnell, Puffer, Evers) who have recorded both a goal and an assist. Just for a little perspective, UConn has 11.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

I feel bad for hyping up this team in preseason tbh. Granted, there is still time to turn it around, but still, this start has been disappointing

I thought we'd turned a corner after UNH but noooooo

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Also, here's the thing: no matter how you look at it we've been bad.

Analytics nerd? Our CF% is 46.7 (it was above 50% last year).

Eye test? Half the time it looks like they don't care

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Nice way to bounceback!
I hope the lineup stays similar and we get that PP finally rolling.

We owe BC a little something after last years playoffs.

Go Cats Go!

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

First thought was "Yeah!!! Looks like we are getting BC at the right time"

Then I remember thinking that before the quarterfinals last year.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

This is a really ugly game so far - that third goal was horrendous, the BC player just flat out beat a player to a loose puck, skated circles around another and then put the puck in the net. I am not sure there is an excuse for a college team looking this slow - I am not sure if it's a lack of talent or lack of effort. Once more this season we are being outshot by at least 2 to 1.

Eye test says effort. That late game play where Colton seemed to check out and missed a guy passing to him....

Men's team is on my garbage list at this point. Women's team earned like a month of carte blanche today. At least when they play bad they look like they care....

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Two young teams on the ice tonight. The team that wanted it more won. Very evident on the power plays. UVM's dump and chase vs. BC skating in and making passes.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

I'm gonna go with lack of talent over lack of effort. Nice try by the Cats last night, but BC, as the better team, definitely deserved the win. I just don't think we can compete with the better teams this year, which is a very discouraging thing to have to admit, particularly after the expectations for this somewhat hyped rookie class. We're a lower tier HE team--the quicker I get used to that, the quicker these losses will be easier to take. Go Cats Go. Or not.....

Very much in agreement. The difference in skill was startling and depressing. Except for a few pockets in time I thought the effort wasn't the problem. Lekkas was outstanding. He deserves some better outcomes.
