UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

I would say with the ones listed probably at least 20 more names I agree. Off the top of my head Ryan Rosenthal, Mike Montagna, Josh Franklin, Brook Harrington, Matt Marshall, Alex Vazzano, Arhtur GRiem, Blake Doerring, and that kid who never played a game named Charlie something even more if you go back to early years of Sneddon - and then yeah add in all recruit who did not show up and it is not a good trend!

Agree with the people here - I see talent I dont see coaching! too am worried about UMass they have great classes and a good coach in place there! Maine still crazy can score 7 goals for a win and let in 5 a next night but been more impressed with what they are this year no reason to think the way UVM has played they could not get to them this weekend like I said the worst thing to be is the team just above Merrimack in the standings!!
Chris Atkinson transferred after two-plus years at UVM, I believe to a D3 school.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

yes but he had another year to play and left to play because of injury one season for Northeastern his last year not going to pretend he was a big loss but he did opt to go play somewhere else

He went to graduate school, that was the primary motivation. If he had stayed at UVM for graduate school he would have played. It was an academic choice, not an athletic one. We can pin a lot of departures on Sneddon, Marshall isn't one of them.

Not only that, but I don't think he ever played at NU.

Cmon wally, after all the flashes Maine has shown this year you don't think they can string it together for a game plus?
Nope. Haven't seen it in years, doubt we see it this weekend. Good goalie for Vermont will look like Hasek for at least one game

Matt Marshall was a very good player and with a little confidence and development from the coaches could have had a good career here. NHL scouts get kids wrong but there was a reason he was drafted. Just another forward that didn't develop at all here.

Thats not true at all. Marshall hated it here. Sneddon NEVER played him his junior year. He couldn't wait to get out of here and used the graduate school transfer so he didn't have to sit out.

skills were there but sometimes can only go by the numbers so i don't really disagree! but it does add to the whole Sneddon can't develop a player to save his life - so many of the guys who got better seems like they did in spite of him the way things are going now! bottom line is if kid leaves and is replaced by another kid that no better by the numbers and also leaves it is a big problem and its high time is stopped - that and making the talent that you have successful the job of a real coach!

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Sneddon seemed humbled in press appearances this week, maybe he’s seen the light and will let this team play. I have a good feeling about this weekend. 4-1 UVM, 4-2 UVM

Um... I'll just disagree.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

I think fan's expectations are way too high. Entering this year, UVM's lifetime record, including the D2 glory days is exactly .500. We are under .500 since going to D1 in 1974. Sneddon's record is basically the same as Cross (D1) and Gilligan. We are the equivalent to a Mississippi State in Football, thinking we are an upper tier program, when we really are average. Bad facilities, no sure-fire recruiting base, makes it very tough to sustain a winning program year in and year out. I am not a big Sneddon fan, a lot of the players regress over time, and their on-ice system is baffling, but it's not like he is in a great situation.

I want the same level of overachievement as we get from the men’s basketball team.

Wow. Lousy game but decent results. We have a handful of good players. And they shined tonight.

Agree we have a handful of good players; nice to see them get rewarded by clawing back and at least getting a tie.

Concerning points:
1.). Grossly outshot again tonight. While I haven’t ventured to the Gutt to watch a practice lately, I have to wonder what Sneddon is teaching? I mean how can a team with such talent be so far out of position all the time.
2.). Key Player Minuses grow. Captain continues the streak of minuses with a minus TWO tonight (there has to be more to this story -to have someone play this many games giving up a goal a game, and not being sat, Captain or not..raises an eyebrow).
3.) NO Colton, go goals. What’s gonna happen when Colton leaves early next year cause he’s tired of the Sneddon carousel of players and lack of development. This has me most worried.

The good...we got a tie!!! Let’s hope the gods look down on us tomorrow and give Colton another couple goals (and maybe get some of the minuses to sit a few shifts).

Regarding shots, our strategy entering the game, as documented in the BFP, was to shoot a lot more. Hmmm, back to the drawing board on that I guess. I kinda miss the days when we outshot teams, outplayed them, and still managed to lose!

Agree regarding Colton. We're gonna be totally screwed when he leaves.
