UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Looks like. Kearly and Ferguson are gone from the D. No cuts from the forwards. I understand Kearly but don't get Ferguson. I think he is as good or better then Lee and Muscoby much less the unproven freshmen. How do you cut guys a month into the school year?

I would think doing this is going to make it much more difficult for the recruiters. The lack of commitment to marginal players might also indicate a problem with player development once they are here...

Definitely a bad look for the university and the program.

If Sneddon's contract is up after 2017-18, we will really learn what this new AD thinks of him. I think it shows just how much the coaches need this year's team to do something special, because they're not going to be good next year which will give the university it's best chance to make a change.

Talk about a downer before the first weekend of real hockey.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Let me get this straight as I dont want to take what you all are complaining about wrongly but could it be true that in college sports

"NOT EVERY PLAYER MAKES THE TEAM"

I thought this was little league and everyone one gets to play.

If you are not a NHL prospect type player and you go to a D1 school (Hockey East no less) you are COMPLETELY aware that
playing time and making the roster is not a sure thing.

There seems to be some personnel grudges toward the coaches going on here that is taking our attention away from the players
that are actually playing for the Cats. To quote the line from Hoosiers

“I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not."

Can anyone remember a time another D1 team cut players like this for purely athletic reasons 1 month into the school year?

I cannot, and unless it's common and I just missed it I don't think it's reasonable that players would've expected this was a realistic possibility.

Jerry York pulled this same stunt a few years ago. It's an embarrassment to college hockey and coaches shouldn't be allowed to do it. Why not cut the kids after the end of last season so they can find someplace else to play?

of course kool aid drinker #1 shows up there will be more

You are completely missing point - yes playing time is not a sure thing and players much earn it - but what this staff did was told two players who probably could have been told in April you will not be expected to be in our plans to come back to school put down money to come back perhaps even sign leases on apts and stay and train all summer only to say after one game, hey, see ya later we don't need you - you want to look at this through lens like these kids are now in a complete bind because they cannot go back to junior hockey for a year and now if they transfer they have to sit out and go through a process of unenrolling in school when all this could have been avoided if they were just given an honest answer of hey you arent gonna play find somewhere else to go in April - it is a move that has no integrity

you seem to think because people actually are critical that Sneddon has pretty much done nothing good in like 6 years and cant develop guys and doesnt get good players (dont give me the they all go to BU/BC crap) that its some kind of grudge no man it is just how some people view things and if you want to live in what i believe is a fairy tale land or just happy to be here land that is fine you can do that but it isnt personal its me not liking to see my season ticket money wasted on inferior play and a coach who outs guys and brings in a ton of others acting like he'll finally get it right all the way to 13 win seasons and i think that is reasonable for me to want more and not what is currently happenings

The idea of cutting a college kid from a team really shouldn't bother anyone--in a vacuum. Problem is we don't know if it came as a shock to them/what sneddon told them last year etc.

I assume you are talking about colin sullivan. Do you happen to know what York told him at the end of his freshman year etc? Nope. But you're obsessed with York.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

In that video he does say they will honor their scholarships at the university. That was one thing i was curious about.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Wouldn't be surprising. This staff has the lowest integrity in NCAA🙂

I tried to tell all of you this summer this was going to turn into a cluster. It will be interesting to see if attorneys get involved this time. It is a pathetic situation and embarrassing for the school.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

The whole staff is the worst on college hockey. This is no surprise whatsoever. This whole "cut" thing is a joke. Respectable organizations inform players of their intentions well before the fall and if the staff cannot make that determination they should not be coaching at all. I would certainly advise all potential recruits to stay completely away from this program until the staff is turned over. Totally unacceptable🙂

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Is Brady Shaw suspended for Friday after getting ejected last Saturday?

I just read about another college team that has a habit of Oversigning players and then making roster cuts to get down to the limit for the NCAA's. Small little unsuccessful program you might have heard of....Alabama Football.

Agree..that is comical..the difference is that first: Alabama wins and if you knew how football worked, the players they are cutting are on walkons or on scholarship for books/meals not full, half or quarter scholarship players. There are 63 scholarships to go around to 85-100 players. Hockey East has 18 Full or 27 2/3rds scholarships so there shouldn't be this much consternation. No other Division 1 hockey program is like this. In addition, the expectations for Division 1 football coming in are much different. The problem here at UVM is that all this churning of the roster has not resulted in an upgrade of talent. The d core is now the smallest, youngest, and most non-recruited d core in college hockey but that is Sneddons way. He always thinks the grass is greener with the incoming recruits. A great coach sees and develops the best out of players. In addition, these are for the most part really good kids and good teammates. The blame is clearly on this staff. Any attempt to justify it is ridiculous. If the kid understood they were on a one year tryout, they wouldn't come which is a sign of lies and innuendos being used in the recruiting process. If UVM continually has that many "bad" players coming in that need to be "churned" out or pressured to give up their scholarship then it is a direct reflection on a lack of an eye for talent or potential, either way it is clearly the fault of the staff. Wallack did the same thing at Yale but he was able to hide behind admissions and the fact there were no scholarships. I predicted it would take him 2-3 years to blow this program up and now the fuse is lit. Shame on Sneddon and the new AD for allowing this to happen.

No doubt, there was a reason he was fired so quickly in Indy and the Bama thing cant even be dignified with a response.
