UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

I'd love to see a replay of Pattyn's non-goal. Not saying it was the wrong call, but I'd like to see it with my own eyes.

If you're referring to the "distinct kicking motion" goal they took away in period 2 last night, they actually got it right on the replay. I was pretty nervous since it was at the other end of the ice but the overhead view was very clear. I don't think he knew where the puck was as it was between his two skates but he may have been trying to find it with his skate to kick to his stick which ended up getting tied up the entire time.

....or maybe he was putting on the brakes as he was crashing the net/getting pushed away....turning to stop......just saying......

Find it very fitting that a UVM fan is now complaining about a blown call. (Cough cough) the uncalled leg check at center ice by Turk against uconn down 3-2 in third that lead directly to the game tying goal (cough cough)

I watched the game online. I don't believe they ever showed the overhead view online. I didn't see the "distinct kicking motion" from the replay that they did show. I actually thought the BC player sliding into the crease knocked it in.

I'm hoping it was very clear, as it would suck to be robbed of a goal in a game you lost in overtime. While I appreciate your honest assessment, I'd still like to see it with my own eyes. :)

I've heard other people say the same thing, which of course makes me wonder.....

You are right a non-call on a penalty at center ice is the same as taking a goal of the scoreboard.....you need to watch more playoff hockey as refs tend to put the whistle away in the third period of playoff games.

Both the BC defender and UVM player were already stopped in the crease. The UVM player overshot it (probably trying to kick it in anyway during his stopping motion, which oftentimes is allowed if it goes in like this). It ended up underneath him as he was perpendicular to the goal line now from stopping with his right hip closest to the goal line and he scraped it towards the goal line with the inside of his left skate blade.

But your imaginary scenario is good too! :D

Your kids played a heck of a series.

A non call at center ice that directly lead to a 4 on 2 resulting in the tying goal, has the same impact on a game as taking a goal off the board. Should have been 3-2 with uconn on a PP, potentially for 5, instead it was a tie game. Seems like it changed the course of the game.

You're right refs do tend to put their whistles away, doesn't mean it is correct. Refs shouldn't impact the outcome of a game. So I feel bad for your players, seniors specifically, but it's also a bit of karma.

I do tend to think this is how it was. I never saw a distinct kicking motion, but admit I was focusing on the 'goalie interference' I thought they were looking at. Demko was extended and couldnt get that extra inch or so by the impedence of Pattyn and the BC defender, so that's what I thought was under review.
Conte did I good job showing the replays AFTER (normal of course), the ruling. I thought it wouldn't be called a 'kick' but I can see why it was close. Stinks we had to wait for these reviews there was such good pace for the game around and after that point. That goal on the line was crazy, can't believe the BC player didnt cover it or knock it into the back of the net. It sure looked like that was going to happen, but replay was clear and they got it out of there at the last second!

Fun game to watch and nice to see UVM hang right in there and not get down on themselves after the 2-0 saturday and 1-0 sunday starts.

BC is wicked talented and might not have played their best game yet, but is in trouble with NU, I think.

That was truly ridiculous.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

the kick/no kick would have tied it at 2 early in the 2nd, right? and UVM did end up equalizing later in the period. my eyes aren't good enough to tell if it was a kick or not, but also tough to say how the game unfolds if it is ruled a goal. would have been something had it happened in OT.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Tough finish for the Cats.
The team took some big steps forward that last series in my opinion.
They played desperate but mostly disciplined and created chaos with the BC D-men at times. There was a few flashes of creativity on offense as well.
Shot blocking was exceptional! The freshmen looked poised for the most part and could be a shining part of the season.
O'Neil, Puffer, Coughlin, Lee, Bowen,Munson all big contributions in the post and regular season!
What can you say about Packy? Great job stepping in and hope he continues to improve and the goalie competition is on.....
Congrats to the seniors on fantastic careers! Pattyn leaves as the d-man with most games played ever....nice.
Hope the new recruits can force the team to be a little more creative and we can loosen up offensively and I hope the special teams decline was just a one year aberration.

P.S. Hope BC gets beat by NU and out in 1st rd of NCAA's.........yeah, maybe some sour grapes......

I love the offensive production from the young guys too. But I'm not going to get my hopes up as it tends to take a year or two for the coaching staff to coach it out of them. Coming in to this year I was so excited to see some offensive dominance from Shaw and Puskarich. Mario did ok, but Shaw under-performed. And I feel like that is a trend with this team. Players come in as gangbusters, looking hungry and offensively skilled. It takes a year or two for them to fall in to this trap and lose the ability to use their strengths. It's very frustrating to see talent go wasted because of a strategy that is being forced upon them. Not to mention a strategy that doesn't work all to well.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Lots of good experience for the freshman last weekend. This has been a fun season. Seems like UVM lost most of the games I saw rather than the other team winning them. Hope the coaching staff rethinks some of their systems over the summer. Looking forward to the next few seasons. There is some decent talent on the team.

You have a link for the video ? I'd love to watch it so I can agree with you :)

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Questions about next year.....I know, I can't let go yet......

1)The lines of Bradley/Priv/Mario, Shaw/Puffer/O'neil, Bowen/Darrar/Coughlin, all come back next year with a C needed for Blanleil/Petro. Who slots in/steps up/moves off?
2) Will there be a PowerPlay unit or just a 1st line roll out? (I thought there was a decent change in the playoffs, but to no avail...)
3) Do the current D men step up with the loss of two senior leaders?
4) Who 'wins' the goalie job? Or just use both save for injury? or rookie coming in?
5) Will we continue to over-recruit and then leave them aside or in jr forever?
6) What's the news on renovate/new Gutterson? pictures are nice....$$$ is nicer!

1) I am sure all those guys will still play. There are apparently 3 or 4 forwards actually arriving in the fall including Colton who is tearing up the USHL and a new recruit, Alvaro, who may be able to play center and actually win a faceoff (UVM finished in the bottom 10 of NCAA D1 schools in face off %age). Mario can't take a million shots and score 10 goals. He takes bad shots that give up possession and does not look for open teammates. They will probably still will play him a ton but he will be a continuing under achiever if he is not better coached on how to play. Priv Jr. started out strong but faded. His size perhaps? Who knows. I am more hopeful that Coughlin, O'Neill and Bowen will score some goals. A forward with size is coming in and hopefully he can add to the forecheck and cycling. Need more scoring but can't do that if we persist in a dump and chase offence and the forwards take bad shots and do not use the D.
2) Power play was 4th worst in the Nation. Yet, they ran the same guys out, time after time. Try everyone including the mascot until you find 6 forwards and 4 d who can do it. That said, look for the same guys as last year and the same problems scoring.
3) Pattyn and Priv Sr. were good players last year but not true first pair on a good team. Priv was hardly missed in the last two games against BC. Lee had a good freshmen year but has to get better to be a top 4 on a good team. Abramson seemed to play the entire last two games against BC and was good but has to do that all year. Hamilton has to be a net plus as he will make mistakes but his contributions must, and can, outweigh those mistakes. Remember, on the whole team, the only players who got invited to an NHL Development Camp were Hamilton and Abramson. Kearley looked lost all year and must work on his skating all summer. Phillips and Ferguson looked ok but must get stronger. I look for Phillips to have a breakout season. Muscoby is a top 6 type but if played as a top 4 we are going to lose. I have no idea about the 3 or 4 freshmen who will be on board.
4) Munson, Munson, Munson. 2/3 of the games should be his with Santa and Lekkas fighting for the rest, unless Packy falters.
5) Yes, of course.
6) Keep dreaming!
