UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Nice weekend at UNH!
Wish they could have finished up that Sat night game with the W. The boys looked pretty spent chasing them around that big ice.

Love to see us play spoiler to BC for a game this week!

Go Cats Go!

Nice move up the standings as well. Unfortunately points will be scarce with two against BC and we may drop a spot or two. Let's hope we steal a win!!

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Dear forwards,
Please do not pass me if there is no one between me and the goalie.

Sincerely,
The Puck

I'm guessing that comment was directed at Pattyn taking a bonehead penalty after giving up a power play goal to put BC right back on the power play

You mean the penalty he got on the guy that had just hit him in the face? Funny how the refs missed that and the other guy that came in and did the same thing right after. Typical
HE ref away getting the second hit.

Some pp you guys have. Were given 15 chances and only converted once. Ouch.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Is JCarter ok? I didn't think him a frontrunner

I'm fine, busy lately but thanks for thinking of me. There really isn't much to talk about with this team right now so I haven't commented much.

Packy has been a nice surprise, but the offense still stinks it up. Bradley and Shaw have been disappointments as well as others. I like some of the Frosh, but all in all the team is offensively challenged and likely will be into the future. I don't think Pattyn was the right man for the captains job, solid D-man but not a leader.

I can't for the life me figure out what the staff is doing on the recruiting trail... should have about 50 players on the roster next season including 4 goalies? Somehow I don't think that's going to help with team chemistry and moral.

Disappointing.

Not sure why that is surprising. Sneddon has always been a grass is greener guy and Wallack is jet fuel for him. Hamilton under the bus now after being supposed program savior. Same story different day (player).

I don't get the Hamilton thing. Is he inconsistent? Yes, he sure can be. However, is he better then Muscoby and Lee......by a mile. With Abramson out with injury, this would have been the perfect chance to get him in the lineup.

Jonathan Turk summed up this team and this season when on Friday night he intercepted a pass at the red line, crossed the blue line with one defense men 3 strides behind and another 2 strides to the right and nobody but the goalie in front of him. He got to the top of the circle, gripped his stick extra hard and took a blasting shot just wide of the net. The grit, effort, and hard work is there with this team, but when they are rewarded for that hard work with opportunities, they have no idea what to do. I find myself saying a lot during the game, "run a play", but it seems to me that they don't know what play to run. And that falls on the coaching. This teams grit and determination has kept them in close games with far superior teams. When can we expect to take the next step toward skilled strategy?

On another note, does anyone else think it strange that WVMT is still doing the play by play for the hockey team? Why has the local ESPN station not picked it up? Maybe someone has inside info on this. The AJ and Rich show in the afternoon rarely has discussions about the hockey team. True to ESPN fashion, why would they hype it if they don't carry it. I wonder if UVM were to make the switch we would see an increase in donations for a new arena. Just a thought.

Creativity is either part of a player's makeup or drilled into the player with coaching. Virtually none of the forwards have any creativity. I think that the defense as a whole are far more creative. That said, any hint of creativity is snuffed out by an offensive scheme that begins and ends with a dump and chase and a defensive scheme that preaches high off the glass to the other team and then let's chase it. Other teams hang on to the puck in a non dangerous way, looking for a team mate to pass to or a scoring lane to open. As with the Turk example, all he did was fire the puck rather then looking for the dman who was trailing. We never pass to the point. Almost all the top teams run the offensive zone play from the point....BU, BC, Providence, Lowell. Why is that?

I agree, the dump and chase is very frustrating. Not to mention, it doesn't work. Giving up possession of the puck and crossing your fingers that you get it back somewhere near the net is not a good offensive strategy. I always joke that if they put a net in each corner we'd be unstoppable.

More disappointment, sure would be great to have a new arena, sorrowful that UVM needs South Burlington to help them because Burlington won't? That said traffic in and out maybe better and if they run shuttle buses the student section shouldn't be too bad.

I do agree with the article that fundraising has languished because no one believes it will ever actually happen... If they had sketches and plans in the lobby for example with a decent on ice product they could generate a signficant amount funding right there. Start selling beer with all proceeds going to fund raising and they'd have the money long before they were ready to break ground. A serious funding effort will produce the funds, but it's time to do make a decision and do it or just stop and upgrade the Gutt with more and better seating and a video scoreboard.

First of all I would really love this too work, not only because we need it but it would be within walking distance to my house. Games, shows and events that close to home would be awesome.

And for those of you who like a brew at the game wouldnt moving the rink off-campus allow beer to be sold????

As long as it doesnt double my taxes I am all for it.
