UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

The run the Cats had to start the seaon was part schedule part puck luck and mostly team CONFIDENCE.

Definitely. Though if I was being a nit I'd say: 40% schedule 40% confidence 20% puck luck

Or a breakaway?

Last I remember is J. Priviterra 11/25 vs. UMass (It's very possible we've scored one since then).

Had a fair few scored against us in that time though.

Two big games coming up this weekend, the Cats need to right the ship and head on a stretch run. It is certainly possible and I like the schedule here on out. If they play like the CAN, they will finish the season well and be in good shape heading into the playoffs. If not, they don't deserve to be there.

Hopefully two games against a struggling UNH team at the Gut will get things back on track. That followed by two at a good but sporadic BC team, two at home against a MC team that is 1-3-1 in their last 4 and finishing off with a UML team that is also hitting hard times (2-5-0) and this season COULD end on a good note.

I think it's possible to go 6-2 or even 7-1 to finish off the season. Of course it could go the other way too... All depends if we see the team that was right there skating with BU and losing in OT to a really odd deflection, or do we see the team that blew a lead to Penn State?

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Connor Brickley leading his AHL team in +/- and has 14 goals in 43 games. Seriously? That's awesome! Have the AHL coaches managed to groom him into more of a goal scorer? He also scored 14 goals between his Sophomore and Senior year in 58 games played. I wouldn't have thought Brick would be outperforming McCharthy by such a wide margin but happy to see it. I'd like to see him in an AHL game but that'd be a heck of a drive...

Good to get back into the win column and nice to see a little puck luck as well. Didn't think the team was overly sharp (with the exception of Shaw) but a win is a win. Hopefully they can build some momentum and get back onto a roll.

Brickleys was always good coaches didnt know how to coach him here and his game better for pro game too bad we didnt see at best while here. McCarthys ceiling for potential a lot lower I hope both make it in the NHL but Brickley more likely. Paliotta next few years too.
Tale of two games last night was awful and wasted opportunity did good job to rally back thanks to unh being in the box the whole time and act like it was enough so bad espically in 3rd period when uvm decided their turn to sit in box whole game and a crap PK if UNH still wants to fire Umile they can have Sneddon wouldn't bother me either way. Such promise down the drain win leaves you looking at top 4 finish solidly and actually a tie for 3rd since Lowell lost might have been ok to drop series to BC or a game to Lowell now changes really need points and basically Merrimack sweep to get there probably still ok to get home first round out of it but blown opportunities from a team that is showing why they were not respected in preseason i think tougher better but not tough enough to be a big boy in HockeyEast.

Not much to talk about.....I see we have dropped to 19 in PWR. Big series this weekend with big consequences. Have to bring it all this weekend. Let's see if Snedden can get them in ready to win.....

Hey what happened to our offensive defensive stance this year. Weren't all the new d supposed to gonna contribute offensively starting with the PP wizzards in Hamilton and Phillips? Nothing against these kids but our recruiting is tilted way too much to those leagues and we are going to feel it next year when Luukko, Pailiotta, Markison, and Fallon (All USHL Players) leave. Gonna need to get some 220lb D to "Shut em down" again. New commit is 5'9" and is 15? Oh boy..Is Walls still available?

Well, Phillips has been a little disappointing but he only gets to play maybe 30 seconds of power play as Paliotta and Privittera don't come off, and to be fair, they have been good at the power play, especially Paliotta.
I think you will see better things next year from Phillips and Hamilton as they get to play more and the Abramson kid is up to the 2nd d pair and has a big shot and lots of power play potential as well. He is also the 6' 3", 220 lb. defender trhat you are talking about needing and we have him already. He also will only be better next year. He will be better defensively then either Paliotta or Luukko.
That all said, I was expecting more this year and to have it come down to having to win 5 of the next 6 to have a chance at the tournament is a major disappointment for sure.

YOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy was that 3rd period so painfull the clock never seemed to move and then the goal with 9 sec.

So proud to see the boys regroup.

BC played only 5 Dmen and really had trouble with VT's forecheck seldom getting out clean.

Quick turnaround for Sat afternoon will benifit VT that they played all 4 lines.

What a game!

BC wasn't great or good but team defense was making it very tough on them. Cats blocked a ton of shots. Santa got it done but really struggled with rebound control... Also went for a skate to play a loose puck in OT that had me ****ting myself haha.

The first goal couldn't have been easier for Shaw, great passing sequence. Also nice to see Irwin score... he has been underperforming.

When BC scored with 10 seconds left I thought I was witnessing another collapse. The game winner was a beauty as well. Great give and go from paliotta to start the chance.

Decided to pass on today even though they moved the game up. No letup though let's see the same effort!

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

A Split did keep the Cats in the running for Home Ice even thou ND could have beat Prov Sat and helped us.

With 2 weeks left the battle for spots 3 thru 7 standings right now

UML 22 points
Prov 21
NU 20
ND 20
VT 19

Two teams get HomeIce (Top4)
UML has 3 games left and everyone else 4 which makes this even closer
Notre Dame has the tough job of playing 2 at BU and then 2 vs BC so they are a long shot
Prov has a major schedule edge playing Umass and Maine
Northeastern plays 2 at Maine and a H/H with BU (also throw in the Beanpot Final)
Vermont has 2 vs Merrimack and then 2 at UML

I figure 3 wins gets Vermont in unless both NU and ND can beat BC & BU who they play 6 of the 8 games they play.

Basically we have to sweep Merrimack and hope NU & ND lose at least one each this weekend.

Should be fun

I kind of think the #5 spot is actually where you want to be and a bit of an advantage.

First you get home ice AND you are playing the #12 team in the league.

Secondly, you don't get stale with a weekend off, I know sometimes a week off seems like a good thing but I think this time of year you really want to be on the ice as much as possible. UVM is deep enough so an injury isn't going to kill them unless it's one of a handful of players.

Thirdly, you get (presumably) two more wins that may help your RPI and thus PWR.

Finally, your fans get two extra games and Seniors get two more games at the Gutt.

While being top 4 would be nice just for bragging rights, In this league I don't see it being a huge detriment. For example, if the season ended today :

First Round

NU @ UMA
ND @ MC
UVM @ UNH
UMO @ UConn

Assuming it plays out to seed (and I don't actually think that would happen)

BU @ UMO
UVM @ BC
UML @ ND
PC @ NU

On the other hand if UVM were in the #4 spot they would be playing NU... So it's either BC whom they are 1-1 against and are 10-3-1 in their last 14 or NU whom they are 1-1-1 against and is 10-1-3 in their last 14.

I don't really see where playing one is a benefit over the other... and the two extra games are a bonus.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Simply put....UVM has to win all 4 remaining games to keep the hopes of a tournament bid alive.
Two this weekend would be a nice start.

Sneddon getting extension. Team is on better footing now so credit to him for turning it around from the dumpster but still have questions if he is long term answer for the program he will have to take what he has now up a level should be the expectation I think that is only fair and reasonable. Personally wouldnt have done it but Im not in charge hope it works out

Playing BC and sweeping them would get UVM closer to an at large bid. Sweeping BC is kind of a difficult task though.
The Cats kill has taken a pretty big hit in the last several weeks but is still a respectable 87%.
