UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Good win tonight for the cats over afa. Cat's did not finish their many chances well but were the faster and more skilled team. A lot of skating. This team passes better top to bottom than any I can ever remember. Still no forgionne. Santa also not dressed????? Amazing reynolds, 2nd leading scorer two years ago relegated to 4th line. Tells you how deep this team is...... should be a good battle with pc monday. Quiet crowd. Miss the students and band. But sold out. Good news!!

Yea the Santa not being there was odd, I can understand not playing but not dressing? Didnt hear of any injury will
be interesting to see if he is there tonight.

Score could have much more one sided but Vermont shanked about 3-4 wide open shots. Still a solid effort.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

They definitely looked like there was some rust early in the game, but still came away with the win. Shaw has been impressive after a slow start. Santa is a odd, hopefully it was a delayed flight coming back from the holidays or something to that effect and nothing serious. Hopefully the cats shook off the cobwebs because PC is going to be a lot tougher team then AFA.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I doubt Santa could be delayed that many days due to flights when they were due back Friday. Where is he from?

Tonight should be a good one. I am liking this team. if only they could finish a bit better on all the good opportunities....

The only thing I can think of is either that Santa was sick, or he got back a day late from break, so sneddon made him sit a game.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Team looked pretty good last night taking the break into consideration. More talented than Air Force, but those kids work hard and it wasn't a sure thing.

Loved the puck control in the offensive zone, working the cycle game, and where Mario and others skated circles around two to three AF players... then managed to put a SOG. Not just skating around with no end product.

I'm psyched for tonight. Go Cats!

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

He did play and looked a little rusty imho. That said, you can't win if you can't score. Shots do not equal scoring opportunities and I wonder if the smaller forwards have troble getting to the good scoring areas. The concept de jour is puck possession and rushing down the ice and taking a harmless shot sometimes looks good but doesn't accomplish much. Just a thought.
Defensively the team has been amazing but other then Paliotta, nobody wants to hit anybody or make it tough to play in our zone. The addition of Phillips is great. He is a beautiful skater with a good head and I am sure he will play better as he gets some game time. What is the status of the Abramson kid? Is he game ready yet? If he comes as billed, he would add a different dimension as he plays with an edge and at 220 lbs. and 6'3" he should be tough to play against. Haven't heard anything since he arrived.

Saw Abramson with the Hitmen last year vs the U-18 USA Squad...Barely even recognized him and there is a reason he didn't go back to PC.

Any insight into what that reason was? My understanding was he was sick.

Interesting that you would say that as I had heard that Coach Quinn at BU committed to him specifically because of the way he played in that game and the way he beat up on Eichel but I did not see the game myself. It is confirmed though that he left PC because of serious illness and was not able to play for a year after he was diagnosed.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

That *** kicking PC gave us Monday night made me pretty sick.

They really controlled the play in their offensive zone, and dominated in their defensive zone... clearly a terrible combination. I didn't think the refs were great but can't blame this loss on that.

Santa wasn't good (but don't "blame" him for the loss either). There are some things about him in goal that drive me nuts watching... he shows a lot of net and can definitely be all over the place with his positioning. Fights the puck a bit too. I've said it a few times but give me Hoff in a big spot against tough opposition any day.

Oh well moving on.

Looking forward to Yale... I'll be down there eating Korean BBQ for lunch and beers plus pizza (best in CT by a long shot) at Bar after the game. New Haven is a **** good place to spend a Saturday.

Go Cats!

Pretty disappointing against Yale. I had hoped that the PC loss would be a wake up call. Now I'll hope the Yale game will provide them some incentive. This is a good team and my hope is this is just a small glitch in their quest for a HE championship and NCAA's. I'm looking forward to the trip to Dartmouth next Sunday and a multi-goal UVM win. Go Cats Go, don't let these two games get in the way of a spectacular season.

Abramson looked terrible! He was slow, out of position and made bad passes! It looked like they were playing four D most of the night because Sneddon didn't want to put him and the third D line back on the ice.

i watched this one last night and can't agree. On the night, two of the goals were scored against Paliotta and Privittera who made bad plays all night. Luuko was probably the best D. Muscoby is hurt and backed off all contact the whole game. Abramson looked nervous, and has to be better, but the only hint of malice came from that kid and that is a bad thing. UVM waterbug forwards could not deal with a large Yale team. No sustained pressure, only two or three scoring chances and a lack of compete....those were the problems.

I agree the whole team didn't play well! But a number of times he made passes straight up the middle and was intercepted or misplayed the puck in front of Hoff and gave up prime scoring chance. I'm not saying he was the reason they lost. I'm just saying he looked terrible I understand its his first game and he needs time. Just my thoughts from watching the game last night

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Well that was brutal to watch... team looked so slow and didn't get anything going in the offensive zone. Could not exit the d zone, string two passes together, or win a battle in the corner. Hoff... not a good.

Considering the circumstances and the way the rest of the team played I think Abramson did ok when he was out there. He was not good but you could say that about everyone last night except Santa who was very sharp.

-An 80 year old Yale fan was poking me and getting in my face after their first two goals and I had to stand up and yell at him to get off my case. Several Yale fans said he is a notorious ******* and kind of insane. I didn't do anything to taunt Yale leading up to that, just happened to be in front of him in UVM jersey. Unfortunately that was the highlight of the last 50 minutes.

Trust me, I was not suggesting that he looked amazing. I was just pointing out that if the team keeps giveaway stats, you would find that Paliotta, Privittera and Muscoby had way more then he did. He also showed some toughness that UVM sorely lacks.
The fact that Quinn at BU wanted him makes me feel like there is more to be seen so I wouldn't hang the kid quite yet. Hopefully we can take another look against Dartmouth and have the whole team play better too.

Can I just remind everyone now that I am back that we have 1 win against a team with a winning record this year. We have "gamed" the pairwise system so far this year. Lets not get out over our ski's...
