UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

This was a great game. They played as hard as I've seen them play for all 60 minutes in a while. I was cautiously optimistic, but now I'm thoroughly convinced this is a championship team. I give Kevin and staff huge kudos and the team leaders for one of the best starts in a while. Every player has been playing tough and with conviction. So impressed with the way the PK has been. These guys are simply awesome. I continue to be so impressed with the vision, puck handling of Jake Fallon. Though not perfect all the time the way he finds open players and threads the needle is impressive. I also like how he holds players off as he maneuvers. Hoffman is looking so confident; the one that got by him tonight was a great shot from a tough angle. What can you say about Paliotta; he exudes control. I could go on and on about most every player. And conditioning cans win games as this team is proving. 110% all the time. Keep up the good work team, you are a joy to watch - thanks.

I'd also like to give the students a BIG thanks tonight for (the most part) cheering FOR their team and keeping it mostly clean. After tossing a couple students last night it seems to have maybe gotten through to them. Good job students.

It has been a long time since we have been able to say things like this and I agree with you. I haven't seen this confident a team in a long time which comes through with games like Friday where this used to happen to us and now we are making it happen.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Ok a mixed bag of thoughts:

1- Thank god for CatamountTV. It has allowed someone like me who has been a die hard fan for 25 years to go from seeing a few games a year to seeing nearly all of them. A life changing turn of events for a fan like me. Thanks for all the years Sportsjuice, but CatamountTV has arrived.

2- The recent comment above that "these things used to happen to us, now we make them happen" is spot on. I watched both ND games and both Maine games. Even against ND, we carried the play....we applied the pressure....we caused others to react rather than reacting. It is a pleasure to watch us routinely out skating teams and having enough finish to come out on top in more than our share.

3- Our defense corp is so improved it is like night and day. Our ability to move the puck cleanly out of our zone and through center ice is critical, as so many people have noted. It makes it seem as if the entire ice surface is tilted slightly in our favor.

4- Another thing that I've noticed is that the combination of taking less penalties, and killing those we do take, is paying huge dividends for this team. Gone are the guys who are going out there intending to make big hits to "get us started" and ending up in the box. Then when we do take them they are not hurting as as much. Add to that an improved power play on our side, and we are no longer getting destroyed every game on special teams. To me that's the biggest difference.

This is the best team I've seen for UVM in years, including our NCAA teams. If we keep playing like this and get some bounces we could end up playing deep into both HE and NCAA tourneys.

5- Love the team speed. We can skate with any team we play. Only thing seperating us from a "top 5" kind of team is another elite scorer or two up front.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Glad to see the Cats get into the Top10 even if its only at #10. Funny how much respect BC gets even
thou they are 4-4 and lost at home to UConn they are still above VT.

Not sure what to think on Dan Senkbeil, he didn't have the puck a lot to see what Off skill level is but he
does have fair speed and does hit...thou that hit scared me, with a 2 goal lead and control of the game a
5 min major would be the only way for Maine to get back in the game. Even if the hit is perfect you cant
let the refs make a call to turn the game and I was very surprised he didn't get at least 2 with those refs.

It's the same thing year over year.... they start with the preseason and only move teams 1-2 spots a week. BC started near the top, it will take a long time for them to fall off the radar. On the other hand we needed to be 3-0 just to get on the poll...

Either way, nice to see them get some recognition. This is a good team that is playing well. I went into it thinking this first part of the season was going to be a tough stretch with NU, ND, PC and ME. Instead here we are at 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play. And looking ahead we have 2 with PC, UMA, and 1 against UConn... UConn very well maybe the toughest game to finish out the first half.

They just need to keep playing like they are playing. PC will be another good test this weekend, and although Gilles isn't have his best year its still going to be tough to get many pucks by him..

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Rankings are worthless this time of year. Focus on winning games. I love the way they are moving the puck and how fast, relentless and resilient they are. They just need a bit more finish. Schedule has not been tough yet. PC will be a good test.

UVM - PC series preview with quotes from Leaman

http://sbnation.com/e/6979550

Stats say this game shouldn't even be close

Goals Per Game UVM = 3.12 (5th) PC = 1.88 (11th)
Goals Against Per Game UVM = 1.62 (1st) PC = 2.75 (7th)
Power Play Percentage UVM = 20.0% (2nd) PC = 7.1% (12th)
Penalty Kill Percentage UVM = 92.9% (1st) PC = 74.3% (11th)

What's interesting to note here is that UVM's SOS is 19th, PC is 20th so these numbers are not hugely skewed by opponents. That said, stats mean absolutely nothing regarding on ice outcomes...

Cat's need to keep the train rolling along, come out strong and just keep working.

Thank goodness Jim and Dave picked against us. I'd start to be real worried if they didn't.

They each picked us to split the weekend series though. For Hendrickson to pick us to beat anyone is a little disconcerting! Connelly has always given us some love. Hope the Cats can finish off some chances and score a few goals. If that happens, we should be just fine. Go Cats Go!

Look at the home and away. PC has not been home much and they always bring their A game for the cats. 1 win in last 8 for cats. Very ugly. Maurmen has killed us. Need our best effort. Thinking split would be fine result. Need to finish chances and be relentless buzzer to buzzer go cats

PC has been dominant over the cats of late, but this team is a much different team then we have had in the past 3 years.... prior to last year they were easy wins for PC. Maurmen has had their number for sure, that said in 8 games he has exactly 2 assists which both came on the opening weekend. He hasn't recorded a point in 6 games now, he must be hurt or just fighting the puck.

Cats definitely to bring their A game either way.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Was not the effort I drove 4 hours to see, here is why we lost

1. Power play....it stunk...no zone time and terrible break outs.

2. Soft goals....1st and 3rd were weak. I will give a pass on the 3rd as Hoff just got run by PC player, 2nd goal
was a very poorly defended 3 on 2.

3. Blind Refs.....3 Cats got hurt and no calls on any and I have major beefs on two.
First how is a player allowed to run the goalie and there is no call? Either we pushed him in and its a call on us or its a call on him
otherwise its just a free shot on the goalie. And the last one on Jarred.....sorry this was the worst not because the ref missed it
I know center ice is so hard to see but after the whistle the four refs got together and took several minutes before
still calling NOTHING.....if no one saw anything the meeting should take 10 seconds not 2 minutes, just rubs the bad call in even more.

4. The crowd....there was none.

5. The band....was ok and loud(those amps sure help) but no one there seemed to care (comical really)

6. Poor selection at concessions....about half of what we get at home and that's saying something

On the good side the arena looks much better than the last time I was there 7 years ago, money spent
well. And the scenery was nice.

I watched on line. Embarrassing. Not much else to say. Last year uvm dominated in a Friday night loss. Will be very interesting to see if cats show up tonight

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

looking at the records of the teams we have played I dont think UVM is as good as the record indicates. yes they look dominant against bad teams but that is what we have played except ND and PC who both handled us. Maine simply is not good, neither is Clarkson. Northeastern is possibly the worst team in the country. That is five of six wins. Uconn is not great either, just good goaltender. PC dominated last night. I hope I'm wrong but I dont see a split coming tonight. Cats need Phillips and Forgionne back to help improve the offense..... I see the Cats as a bubble tournament team

You left out the part about Deliverance being filmed in Burlington Vt and it was a ducumentary

It will be interesting to see how they do at home vs a good team. They did outplay ND so that one I take as "puck luck".. they were outplayed last night. Pattyn is the odd man out 2nd semester (Hamilton missed his man on the 1st goal as well). Muscoby played well so I think he stays.
