Utica University 2025-26 - The Road (back) To Utica

The idea is that you quit using the Utica thread to masturbate your absurdly over-sized ego...

Get it, shithead?

I'm not involved but Fish did kind of cook here 🤣

Just take it to your personal blogs and let's talk hockey (15 days until Preseason Game #1)

We may all want to take note of the Announcement of July 22 in the Administration section regarding "keeping it civil"

With the release of the USCHO poll today, Utica opens the season ranked #2 in both polls

Ranked games to start the season would be:
Adrian x2
Hobart x2
Geneseo x2
Oswego
Hamilton (assuming Utica and Hamilton win Round 1 games for Thanksgiving tourney)

Notably, after Christmas break, Utica would not see a ranked opponent until February 13th

Didn't watch last week's exhibition. and I won't watch the coming one either. But I did do a little research...

None of the D-1 pine-shiners coming here looked like a pinch of shit on paper, but that was the case with Educate, Ammirato, Parker and others. That turned out pretty well, didn't it?

The entire crew of this year's D-1 transfers had a cumulative stat sheet of something like 2-11-13 while playing at the lowest level of D-1. None of them garnered any significant ice-time, even while playing at bad programs.

But then you see Ahern potting 4 goals v. Morrisville, when he played in 3 games last year, and registered one assist.

History repeating? Hope so.

My opinion on this, and maybe those more knowledgeable will disagree, is it just shows the skill discrepancy between D1 and D3. Went to Clarkson for 4 years, and in those 4 years I probably attended 95% of their home games. The level of play in D1, particularly amongst ECAC and Hockey East teams which I watched most, in my opinion is closer to AHL level than it is D3. Obviously these are 2 of the best conferences in D1, and the players coming to UU are not near that caliber, but I think the point stands

Not true. The top 5-10 d3 teams can beat the lower end D1 schools on any given night. D1 teams would get their teeth kicked in by ECHL teams, and wouldn’t get many more than a handful of shots on goal against AHL teams. A lot of times for these transfers it comes down to opportunity. A kid like Ahern had 6 points in 14 games as a freshman at a Hockey East school, and only dressed 3 games as a soph, most likely not seeing any minutes on the 4th line. Hard to succeed in those circumstances.

I just have to say that Educate was a D3 transfer from Nichols, and he was the leading goalscorer in D3 hockey the season before as a freshman

I understand the sentiment and in general, that's correct, but Educate is a horrible example

Wow, wow, wow... Not like me to forget stuff and be too lazy to look it up.

Good catch, though!

The empirical evidence supports your statement, but -having seen literally hundreds of games at each level- I haven't noticed it all that much.

Guess it's a question of watching D-3 teams playing other D-3 teams and D-1 teams playing other D-1 teams, making the disparity between the divisions seem less stark than it apparently is.
