Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

BIG statement road win tonight for the Pioneers. Played hard hockey for 59:27 (let up after the ENG). Previous UC teams would have sat on the lead, played 'prevent D' in the 3rd and would have lost. This team so far seems to have the discipline to keep the motor running full throttle. W games should be something after the break. GO UC!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

The feeds from Oswego and Norwich are, in terms of DIII hockey, the absolute gold standard. Are they ESPN? No. (IMO, they're better because they actually cover hockey, but in any case...) But Norwich is a professional production, for sure, and Oswego's is even more amazing when you consider that it's completely student-run.

Sorry guys; I didn't realize that OSU's broadcast was in HD for some of you... Here in "greater" Utica on TW 1027, we get a very grainy sub-SD feed. The puck is not even visible most of the time, and this has been the case for all four Oswego games I've seen. Just brutal video quality. If there is an HD option buried somewhere among the 5 gazillion channels I get, I'd appreciate hearing about it... Those games are nearly unwatchable in the form TW presents us with here on 1027.

Still, it was a great game to see, even on a shadow-box. (What flow!) And the D played really well all game long. I didn't see anyone panic all night long. Olivieri in particular looks like he's figured something out, all of a sudden. He was rock-solid from start to finish.

Huge road-win for Utica, and a well-deserved one. If UC can avoid a letdown tomorrow against Nichols, they should be in very good shape re: the NCAAs, going into the second half of the season.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

The 1027 feed was brutal, very poor, I was dissappointed but happy to watch. Utica could have won much worse, two or three pipes and in the third a breakaway and a three on one. Oswego's goalie kept them in it. Therrien was very good also. Big win !

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

The replays here are better picture quality than what was on tv ? UC's first goal was very pretty. Why is the tv coverage so bad in pic quality ?

You should ask Time Warner Cable...the feed to TWCable in Oswego is direct hand-off from the college - TWC distributes it from there...the online feed is also HD...

Start complaining to TWCable....

I'd assume Time Warner is compressing the #$%& out of the signal? I dunno, I'm not a cable subscriber.

Game looked good while watching on my netbook, after figuring out how to maximize the video (clicking and hiding their stats thing on the right). I muted the video and listened to the 99.1FM broadcast for the play by play.

You can just as easily go to Oswego's website ( http://athletics.oswego.edu/showcase/ ) and watch it in full HD, even when TW isn't covering it (I have TW here at school, but only channels 4-78, and I have Charter when I'm home in Plattsburgh).

Olivieri doesn't play like that all of the time? He definately was one of the guys that you noticed on the ice, and were asking "who is that kid?" By far, the best defensman I've seen play so far this year! Really liked the way he played.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

He is pretty good... and you're right, he doesn't always play and is sometimes a healthy scratch however after last nights performance you definitely will be seeing him more out there.

He has very good offensive skills and an absolute cannon for a slapper, but has been a prolific turnover-machine until the Oswego game. He played very well in his own end that night, just as he did against Nichols tonight. Hope this trend continues... He's just a freshman, after all.

Speaking of the Bison, they looked pretty good. They certainly appeared to be well-coached re: taking care of their defensive responsibilities, they played hard, and they were strong in net. Utica had too much team speed for them to handle, but no big surprise there; I haven't seen a faster team than UC so far this year. (Ceasar looked good, too. Very quick.)

9-2-1 going into the break is getting my hopes up for the NCAAs.

9-2-1 is just about where Gary wanted this team to be I would think.
NCAAs are certainly a possibility if things hold up.
There is a lot of hockey to be played, but what a great start for UC this year!!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

must say sign of a good team is when they beat a top team, like Oswego, then can come back the next night and beat a team not really at the top lets say...the possibility for that let down was big, but they showed what it takes to stay in the top 10 mix for sure ...good luck the rest of the way

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I saw that after I typed it and said the same thing.
My bad for copying what was on the page.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

No one said they did -- Read closely - the statement is "9-2-1 is just about where Gary wanted this team to be" NOT "9-2-1 is where Gary's team is" :p

I had my numbers wrong- nothing unusual about that- but I wouldn't feel too bad about Utica adding a tie to their record, as long as it's against Oswego early in '13. (I don't want to aim low, but taking three of four points from OSU would be a first for UC, and a real boost for their RPI.)

I expect Utica to roll Salve Regina on Friday, then I hope they'll be ready for an angry Oswego on Saturday. ( 10-2-1 after that span, maybe?)

OSU is perennially an elite D-3 team, and we don't see many of that ilk in The Aud. ( Pretty-much no others, in fact.) I admire the fact that the Lakers schedule OOC games fearlessly with the best of the ECAC-West... They haven't ducked anyone, and that speaks volumes regarding the excellence they expect from their program.
