Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I'd probably make the drive if I wasn't working that night... Still, having seen OSU thrice this year, I'd have to predict a Utica loss on Friday.

The game of the week will be Oswego at Hobart, IMO. HC looks great on paper, and that frigid little pit in which they play is not a friendly place to visit.

My off-hand picks are OSU 5 (with an ENG), UC 3 and Hobart 3, OSU 1.

(PS: I don't think that Utica will have much trouble with Nichols on Saturday.)

the cooler is a horrible place to play for the visiting team for sure, feels like you are going out for a public skate not a game, it will be even harder for Oz seeing they have a top team in Utica the night b4,then the drive to Hobart, should be interesting....ps Hobart b eat Buff st 3-1 last night with a Empty netter, game was tied til halfway thru the third...

Buff State is a tough out primarily because Carr is a really good goalie... Too bad his D gives him so little help.

I was surprised to see that tonight's contest was so close, though. I wonder if Hobart was looking ahead at the biggest game on their RS schedule, come Saturday?

Just in case any of you haven't heard, UC/OSU will be televised on Time Warner Sports throughout much of New York. ( It's on channel 1027 for the Upstate region. ) The feed from Oswego is not stellar in quality by any means, but how great is it to see all this D-3 hockey on the tube lately?!?

Life just keeps on getter better, all the time. ;)

That is not what the Oswego students will tell you

The feeds from Oswego and Norwich are, in terms of DIII hockey, the absolute gold standard. Are they ESPN? No. (IMO, they're better because they actually cover hockey, but in any case...) But Norwich is a professional production, for sure, and Oswego's is even more amazing when you consider that it's completely student-run.

There's a reason half of the Norwich sports info department come from Oswego... their sports journalism and media programs are top notch, without a doubt (oh, and Derek had an in with Charlie because they both post here... and now Derek is the SID there lol). I've outright told friends who were interested in going into sports journalism to look no further than SUNY Oswego, and this is coming from a Plattsburgh fan!

In any case, I'm going to disagree with your statement here. The feed from Oswego absolutely IS 'stellar' when you consider that it is A) DIII hockey, and therefore a very limited audience, and B) a completely student-run operation.

I was impressed with the camera work and the HD quality picture when I watched the PLT - OSW game last week.

Not to nit pick, and I don't know if there were any reasons, but the camera work was one of the "poorest" OSU standard wise I lve seen in a while. Several times the camera would lose track of the play. Again, compared to any other DIII and even DI still superior, it was just a small nit pick pet peve of mine. I've seen the TWSN broadcast from Utica, I've seen RIT, Colgate, the Amerks games and ill take OSU anyday.

The only other complaint I had, and not sure if anyone else caught it, during the recap one of the broadcasters for OSU says "its a good thing Oswego scored the PP goal as it now gives them a one point advantage over Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC standings" I hooe someone explained to him standings go by W/L/T not goals.....

There is a certain college hockey radio show that, whike the intentions are good, lack the research and knowledge of DIII hockey. When you say a team was tired Saturday because they played Friday night when they actually played the WEEK before...and "Plattsburgh will host a rematch of last years SUNYAC Finals this weekend when they host BUFF STATE?!?!?!?" I am all for exposure, but when you watch and listen to some schools and or "professionals" get a clue! And not to make anyones ego burst here but take a listen to Utica's Ray Biggs....between the Oswego crews even back with Maloney, they do not just focus on their team. Some schools only focus on their team, a good broadcaster knows what's going on in DIII hockey outside of their own team.

A great win for UC tonight.
Win on the road against the former D3 number 1....

Great win!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

good game...that was one that each team can take pieces from and add on to.
I wish the lakers luck the rest of the season!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I was at a professional meeting tonight. Drove another attendee across campus to his car and caught some of the 3rd period (about halfway through, I think) on the Utica station radio. OMG! The place sounded electric!
