Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012
Same difference, in any practical sense. The Committee is just an arm of the NCAA, obviously. It isn't as though one acts independently of the other... D-3 posters sure love their semantics!
Looking forward to Nazareth joining the fold, at any rate. Two UC games there on Friday/Saturday would certainly justify the drive and an overnight in town. I wonder if the W has another prospective member in its cross-hairs?
Hamilton would be the team to woo, IMO... The program there is well-established, and UC, Hobart, and Nazareth would all be within an easy ride on the Thruway. (Should save HC a buck or two in gas compared to the travel costs they face right now, too.)
Probably won't happen, and I'm sure several of you will be eager to point exactly why it absolutely can not, citing some sacred D-3 clause in Article 589.77, Section 86...Yet, it would make good sense geographically, and might actually serve to improve the state of D-3 hockey in general, to have stable and reasonably-spaced teams in the same conferences.
(Just an idle thought on a slow night at work.)
My guess is the intent of the statement was about number of teams required for an automatic bid... volume over quality.
Of course, the selection committee has nothing to do with that... that's an NCAA rule across sports.
