Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

Can anyone get an action shot of Cody Adams? I am looking for a photo for a write-up for the Cardinal Classic. Thought I would put some feelers out now!

Last year it was Curry coming in to the Classic with a couple PSU transfers, this year it's Utica with Adams??? Let's hope this trend doesn't continue :D

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

Is that definitely going to happen..? Would be nice, especially if one more team joins the conference to legitimize it in the eyes of D-3.

There are 5 very strong programs in the W, which is more than any other conference has, and none of them fit into the SUNYAC mold... I'd love to see the conference survive as a stand-alone, because I don't see any of the existing teams fitting in anywhere else.

The school has petitioned to join the ECAC West, currently composed of Elmira, Hobart, Manhattanville, Neumann, and Utica.

“Obviously, we’re excited that they are looking to get into our league,” Elmira coach Aaron Saul said. “Nazareth is going to be competitive very quickly and add to the competitiveness of the league.”

Given the current circumstances of the ECAC-W, do you really see them rejecting Nazareth?

Pretty sure that the West will take anybody right now... It has plenty of quality programs as it is; all it needs to add is enough warm bodies to qualify for an AQ under D-3's arbitrary guidelines. (Which begs the question: Is size of conference necessarily a worthwhile criterion upon which to make such selections?)

Back to on-ice issues, it appears that tomorrow's game vs. Westfield State is a bit of a mismatch, at least on paper. (The Owls are coming off a 5-win season playing in a weak conference.)

Hope they bring more than St. Mike's did last weekend... That was a dull and sloppy affair, especially down the stretch.

It's what they do in all sports. Norwich getting an AQ in Football this year has annoyed a number of people, because the league they play in is weak at best.

Putting it extremely lightly. The ECFC is regarded as the weakest conference in all of DIII football based on SOS. In the first two weeks of the regular season, the conference went 2-14 in non league games.

Westfield Recruited very well. Vidoni is a quality player ffrom the CJHL. A player to watch. Porier is a dman that will improve. he played against a lot of quality players in the same CJHL. Ranieri is a very very tough kid that plays with an edge and grit, he will get a lot of points over his career too and Evans was a top point getter with the Wellington Dukes who went to the RBC cup. Not convinced about him really -he played with some sensational players but every time i saw him he was looking for something for FREE - he is very skilled. This team can not be taken for granted one single bit. They are undefeated currently and will bring a good game in here tonight. How can you not get up for this one if you are them!

they may have recruited well, but i just can't see them beating Utica. They beat WNE and tied Nichols. The Nichols game they got up early and then just got decimated by Nichols for 3 unanswered. Not to mention, i know WNE has gotten better, but a terrible utica team beat them 8-1 two seasons ago. They'll be a better team than last year, but i can't see them winning tonight. They'll still be light years ahead of the disaster salve regina is going to bring to the aud on teddy bear toss night :)

dont think he said they were going to BEAT Utica.........lighten up Francis:D

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

That's correct - I don't see westfield winning, unless the Pioneers don't see them winning either and play at 70%.
All I am saying is that some good kids just arrived at Westfield and if a few more arrive anytime soon this program will be off and
running.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2011-2012

WS was dominated in terms of shots-on, but the game was much closer than that on the ice.

Smitty wasn't sharp in net for UC, but he wasn't awful, either. He didn't face many shots, but what few opportunities WS had, they pretty much buried. Gotta say that the Owls showed decent team speed and admirable tenacity, even as they were being *out-talented*... They continued to work pretty hard throughout the game, a number of lazy/selfish penalties-taken nonwithstanding.

UC's usual suspects spearheaded the O, but one kid who stood out to me was the Fr. D-man, Adams. He really played a terrific two-way game.

We'll see if Utica can prevail at The Cooler tomorrow night, in a more meaningful contest. (They always seem to struggle in that dump.)

One more thing (and I've said it before...) UC fans are the most clueless I've ever seen in terms of basic hockey etiquette. Tonight was no exception.

All night long, night-in-and night-out, there was a tsunami of mindless parents and adults washing back and forth from their seats to the concessions during live action, heedless of those around them who are actually there to watch the game... I can't even begin to tell you how many necks I wanted to wring there this night, just as I have over the 11 years of UC playing at The Aud.It is often said that Utica is a "hockey town", but this behavior is definitely evidence contrary to that notion.

Get a clue, and wait for the whistle to procure your nachos and beer, you morons! Some of us are here to see the $#@K!ng hockey game, capece?
