Utica College 2017-2018 season

Re: Utica College 2017-2018 season

Got my tickets for next Saturday! Looking forward to my first game at the Aud aka Adirondack Bank Center.

You'll like it; it's all spruced-up with Jumbo-trons and everything! (And, with any luck, they'll confiscate your cowbell at the metal detector. :p)

Re: Utica College 2017-2018 season

Did my homework on Elmira's first line, it was mentioned here that they're very good. Holy moly, 54 goals and 129 points ! Tough game, UC loses they're out of NCAA's. On the bubble now at #7 regional rankings they need a win AND help.

So many upsets in D3 playoffs I'm not even going to try to figure it out, Plymouth lost last night, think Buff State lost but jumped back into the rankings. How the hey do they figure things out in that smoke filled room.

What do you think fish, if UC wins(not sure that's going to happen against a team that hammered them twice) do you think they have a chance. Who do we root for to win or lose this weekend? Very confusing, not like D1.

Re: Utica College 2017-2018 season

IMO, for UC to be in the best possible position for a bid the following MUST happen:
1. UC must win (obviously)
2. UNE must win
3. Hobart must win

The following would be ideal but do not necessarily have to happen*:
1. Geneseo wins
2. Trinity wins twice
*if either lose they need to fall below UC in east rank. If not, UC is dead in the water.

If the five numbered things DO happen, the last bid will boil down to a UC/Marian comparison in the smoky room.

What beer does the Aud sell? Not a fan of the craft beer.

Many popular domestic brands including Saranac. Not every concession has the same beers so wander around. Also check out Kilfoil's Irish Pub in the lower level near section 115 for imports.

Labatt Blue and blue light, Heineken, Stella Artois, and many more, 16 oz cans are six bucks. There are I think four concession stands that sell beer, a bar with mixed drinks in the hallway, and a bar downstairs, Irish flavor. It's very easy to stay well hydrated, almost forgot, they come to your seats also so you won't miss any of the game.

Hard to imagine why it’s so easy to draw 3K plus to every game with those amenities!

And I'm guessing that there's no way to divine which of the latter 2 teams is ranked higher at this point..?

Actually, it is pretty easy - look here http://web1.ncaa.org/champsel_new/exec/pdf/staticpdfrank

Utica. Win% 0.667 RNK% 0.400 (2-3-0) SOS 0.538
Marian Win% 0.593 RNK% 0.000 (0-9-0) SOS 0.510

Yes, Utica is way ahead of Marian.

But it's probably more fun to say "no way to find out"

Give it a rest, wouldja? It was an honest question.

It's fair to say that the final rankings have historically been - at times- *surprising*.

If D-3 used a true PWR without the RNK cliff, no one need ever ask that sort of question, now would one?

I hate to break it to you but those are the 2017 numbers. Look at the date stamp on the top of the PDF.

Shabby, as others have intimated, there are a lot of moving parts in this equation. We might have to settle for a "tournament championship" and a 21-win season, which wouldn't suck in and of itself... On the other hand, EC has owned Utica this year.

UC will have last-change, and I'm curious as to how Heenan will deal with defending EC's terrific 1st-line in that context this time around. (I hope he lets the dogs run free vs. Elmira's 2th-4th lines, though. There's a massive drop-off there.)

In any case, Utica (potentially) has a lot to play for, and EC would certainly have a jovial ride home, should it end UC's season... I expect a knock-down/drag-out hockey game. If nothing else, there's a lot of bragging-rights on the line.

Thanks for taking the time to clear that up.

Cocktail hour in Colorado evidently commences at a somewhat earlier time than it does here, or in Green Bay. (Not that that's necessarily a crime. :D)

However, the correct data is available at d3hockey.com. Utica has a strong edge in Win% and RNK% and trails in SOS. The next game against Elmira should help UTC's SOS a bit.

Not much, though... The remaining original West teams aren't all that this year, and the inclusion of King's and Chatham -ironically, in order to render the UCHC a "legitimate" AQ conference- has seriously weakened it.

Utica would very possibly be much better-off right now had it had the leeway to schedule more OOC games vs. (for instance) decent SUNYAC teams, or even a Hobart or a Norwich.

But, D-3 demands an intrinsically meaningless volume of teams per conference, even when that construct demonstrably dilutes the quality of the same.

So very, very, dumb.
