Re: USCHO Women's Hockey Posters Poll

maybe I should put up a link where someone goes to a Canadian university and asks "who won the War of 1812?" nearly all the students thought Canada did, LOL, 55 years before Canada was even a country

I was born and raised in Europe and know more about the Canadian and American History than the average person born in North America.

Sadly, with respect to the average person in the United States - especially the average younger person born in the United States - I have no reason to question what you're saying here.

The "younger" bit is actually a myth. There's no evidence that younger Americans are any less educated than previous generations and a fair amount that the opposite is true.

In any case, one can't really blame a generation when they lag behind in a particular subject, when it is the previous generations that did a poor job of educating them. When I think back to my own school, the science and math teachers were very earnest about their subject areas, while the social studies teachers were mainly coaches that were waiting for the school day to end so that they could have practice or travel to a game. It's hard to learn much in a class when your teacher walks in and says, "Okay, collect the books and you can visit for the rest of the hour," and then heads off to the teachers' lounge to smoke.

Great point Eeyore. All kidding aside, I think the education methods and values for each generation and region are different. Does not imply it is more or less valuable. Some knowledge that kids have today, we would not even dream of in past generations.

On average, Canadians tend to know more about America than the other way around. IMHO that is driven by the influence of the large amount of American Broadcasting directly available in Canada, while the reverse is virtually non-existent.

Differences exist between European and North America study systems and values. When I came over as a 19 year old to go to college here, I was way ahead of my peers educated in NA in some subject matters, but in other subjects I was way behind. For example, there is a lot more focus in Europe on culture and history compared to NA.

Sorry I'm late, there was trouble at the lab with the running and the explosions and the screaming and the monkeys stole the glasses off my head!

Interesting to observe that despite the fact that there was a lot of movement compared to prior weeks, there was less Variance amongst the posters as a group in this weeks ranking compared to the past week. Not sure what to make of that.

Re: USCHO Women's Hockey Posters Poll

Respect you post here, my comments were tongue in cheek. I just don't know how the "official" pollsters continue to be so forgiving. Glad to see you are objective. I do agree that on paper BC should be doing a lot better.

Ding dong, the streak is dead.

No worries.

Honestly it baffles me that they are so high right now too... I think a lot of the pollsters are battling with their expectations versus the results still. I had BC 5th last week and now not ranked because of one 0-1-1 weekend because it finally pushed me over the edge where the pre-season expectations just weren't matching up.

I'm starting to think that BC and Clarkson are joined at the hip. They both can look very dominant one day and very ordinary the next. If they get the consistency down each has the chance to be a Frozen Four team. If not, they could be watching the NCAA tournament from the couch.

North Dakota over Wisconsin Brooky??????
I guess we'll find out this coming weekend. I'm hoping for a split :p
I was more impressed with WI losing twice to MN than I was with NoDak splitting with MN
I'm motivated to revisit this with renewed contemplation.

1 pt @ home. Fail.

Re: USCHO Women's Hockey Posters Poll

GREAT ANALYSIS. I think the gutsiest and most sage ranking is Clarkson ahead of QU. Even though their records don't support it, I feel that way too, but we'll find out this weekend when they face each other. In fact, this weekend is going to tell us a LOT about both teams (and Princeton, SLU).

Putting Clarkson ahead of Quinnipiac last week turned out to be the right call. Meanwhile Princeton came back to earth. Looks to me that Cornell, Harvard and Clarkson will be duking it out for the ECAC crown. I suspect that it will come down to Cornell and Clarkson in the end. IMHO Harvard is playing on the thin edge of the wedge with their short roster. Injuries could become a factor specially during the dog days of winter when they have to play a lot of games, including Beanpot.

Here is this weeks Poll. Actually easier to compile than last week with few surprises and little movement. There is now a clear TOP 3 with UND falling to Wisco. Still no one seems to want to take charge and take that number ten spot. This week it goes to RMU over UMD, the latter team being inconsistent against teams they are on paper supposed to beat if you want to be a contender for the tournament.

1 - Minnesota (1)....W, W.......Still no 1 by a big margin.
2 - Wisconsin (2)....T,W........A more clear no 2 after the Win and Tie over no 4 UND.
3 - Cornell (3)........DNP.........A more clear no 3 given the results of the Wisco/UND games
4 - UND (4)...........T,L........With four in the loss column losinhg ground on the top 3.
5 - Harvard (5).......W.........A Win over BU solidifying their hold on the 5 spot.
6 - Clarkson (6).....W,W......Another pair of convincing wins. Still behind Harvard given their HTH result.
7 - Quinnipiac (7).....T,L.....Tough weekend for Quinnipiac, staying just ahead of BC.
8 - BC (9)..........W,W.....Couple of wins over U-Conn. Enough to move them past BU. BELOW BU.
9 - BU (8).........L,W......Loss to Harvard hurting HE again, dropping behind BC.
10 - RMU (NT).....T,W......Finally decided to give RMU some love. The way they are trending, they could move into the top 8 soon.

Most of the other top 10 contenders keep piling on losses. UMD loses to Bemidji, Princeton falters, NEU splits with Vermont, MU splits with RIT. SLU might be the other team in the 11-15 conversation.

Order of contenders: UMD, SLU, NEU, MU, Princeton.
