USCHO Women's Hockey Posters Poll

So for a little while now I've been thinking to myself that women's hockey, more than a lot of other sports, has a pretty high percentage of its fan base that knows a hell of a lot about what's going on. What I mean by that is, if you follow women's hockey, chances are you know A LOT about women's hockey, where with other sports there's a better chance that someone might just have a casual interest.

For this reason I've been kicking around doing some kind of USCHO Posters Poll among everyone on the forum and compiling them to put together our own rankings.

Ever thought to yourself "This poll is ridiculous, I could do a WAY better job ranking these teams!"? (Looking at you, NoDak fans...) Well now you can!

Each week, up through Thursday at noon (since I know we all have a life and might not be able to post rankings within 12 hours of the last game being completed), post your top 10 rankings for NCAA D-1 women's hockey. By the end of the day on Thursday I will compile them all and post the weekly rankings. I will probably use the results in my blog from time to time, because who doesn't like a little original content?

Sound fun? Of course it does.

My top 10 to follow after I see just how badly BC dismantles Maine this afternoon. Feel free to wait (if you're Eeyore and think Maine is going to win LOL) or just assume a BC victory (like everyone else) and post right away. Compiled week 1 rankings to be posted Thursday afternoon.

I can deal with ties when compiling, no problem.

Yeah it does seem tough to differentiate a few of these teams.

Re: USCHO Women's Hockey Posters Poll

Have not really been following as closely yet as years past, but that will change after this week.

Of the top of my head, little analysis:

1 - Clarkson
2 - Minnesota
3 - Wisconsin
4 - BC
5 - North Dakota
6 - UMD
7 - Cornell
8 - Harvard
9 - BU
10 - ....Open, too many teams to consider, the line is at nine.

Particularly since half of 5 - 8 have yet to play.

you people that rate Mercyhurst over OSU know that OSU beat them in Erie on Saturday, correct?
and that OSU plays a MUCH more difficult schedule, so by the end of the year we'd expect them to be a more improved/battle hardened team
...just sayin'

Polls like this are intended to estimate future performance. If the results of games played were all that mattered a poll wouldn't be necessary. So the dreaded words "small sample size" come into play.

... and that they lost to MSU-Mankato
c'mon, people are rating them high because in the past they have had a good won loss record with a less than .... having trouble saying it nicely

Re: USCHO Women's Hockey Posters Poll

People are ranking the Lakers because at the end of the day, they are always in the picture. Somehow, they have found ways to win the games they need to win. Ciampa, who played very well for them, graduated, so they are a bit more vulnerable defensively right now. They'll be in the hunt. I'm not saying a team like Ohio State won't be, but eventually, the losses add up for a couple of the WCHA teams that look strong early.

Agree to some extent, but if the Lakers continue to struggle in key NC games against mid pack (teams 8 - 20 in the rankings/polls), it is only a matter of time before they drop out of the top 10 rankings/polls. Having said that, their games against Clarkson and Cornell will go a long way in determining if they will be in the mix when it counts at the end.
