USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

Re: USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

A now defunct annual festival, the Taste of Minnesota, had the Doobie Brothers playing to a few dozen people on a minor stage for free while one-hit-wonder Paula Cole ("Where Have all the Cowboys Gone") was playing the main stage to thousands. It was a dark time for music.

I disagree; that's healthy.

No band should exist 20 years after it started unless it's a black blues guitarist.

The only thing sadder than a Young Republican is an old rocker. It's children's music. Count your money and make way for the next set of children.

Yeah but do tickets ever go down? Once acts get into the nostalgia racket the Olds have more money.

The one exception is when the wheels come off entirely and you see a former stadium rock act at a county fair or worse.

Last summer I saw Belinda Carlisle sign at the Leinenkugel bandshell at the Minnesota state fair. It's free. You sit on a park bench and watch as myriad acts flow across the stage. You might start with a local talent contest, followed up by Herman's Hermits, followed by Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, followed by Belinda Carlisle.

Now, we got hot, cocaine Belinda instead of Go-Go's Belinda, so it was ok.

Belinda Carlisle is 61 years old. There isn't enough cocaine in the world.

I'll take Go-go's Belinda every time. Bonus if Jane joined in.

My point exactly.

If you were the former front person of a world famous 80's band, I'm sure there's plenty of young 20-30 somethings out there that would give you a romp.

No matter how fat and wrinkled or plastic you were.

And that is the tragic double standard of the sexes. (We would also have accepted a photo of Lemmy.)

Conversely:

I have no doubts even Lemmy could pull.

Re: USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

So I just checked ticket prices. $97 for general admission lawn seats. Yikes. Should have jumped when they were $26.

For Garbage and Alanis Morrisette? Please. That's friggin' ridiculous.

Re: USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

Around here you can't get tickets to any show for < $100, and if it's any kind of a name, even an old fogey one, they start at rock bottom $150 and go up quickly.

Now, to be fair, we have paved roads...

That's how much tickets cost these days.

Yeah I thought that was low TBH.

In Michigan, we have *mostly* paved roads, but tickets for shows are getting to be as much where you live.

Cost a small fortune to see Celine Dion and that was nosebleed. The scalping for Elton John in the Twin Cities is off the charts. It costs a lot of money to see these concerts nowadays.
