USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

Was wondering about the armory. Was looking at a concert later this year. Crazy prices.

did you have floor? how was that?

Wife is 5'3", so I splurged and got balcony seats so she could actually see.

Floor is just a big open space, with elevated space on each side. The stage was decently elevated to give some chance to see the stage from the back, but that only helps so much if you're short or have a 6'7" dude in front of you. The bar runs the length of the venue on both sides, so there's never a wait to order anything, and plenty of bathrooms so the lines didn't seem long even for the women between sets. Middle level and the end opposite the stage were club areas of varying price points, upper balcony is two rows of reserved seating but over hangs the club level, so it's still pretty close to the action.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Looked like an incredible venue from the pictures on google.

A couple photos from the Armory's Facebook page, and the camera makes them look farther away than they are in reality.

This was the view of the show from the far end club area:

This was basically the view from my seat (think I was sitting right next to the guy as he took this pic):

I've been listening to a lot of female jazz vocals from the 50s and 60s. I have some annoying EdgeLord observations. Would you like to hear them? Good.

1. Billy Holiday was from another planet. She's so categorically better than any other singer I've ever heard she should have something like an Erdos Number.

2. I don't get Sarah Vaughn. No sir, I don't like it. I think I like Dinah Washington's voice but most of her songs/arrangements were awful.

3. I only like Ella when she's with Armstrong or Ellington but then I love her.

4. My god, the syrupy arrangements of the 50s make 90% of the music unlistenable. Can we please go back and engineer out every violin from every jazz record ever recorded?

Peggy Lee too drippy for you?

Saw Steve Vai in a 500 seat theater last night, I can see why Frank Zappa made him a member of his band just out of Berkelee. The guy is out there( just like Frank was). I’m on the fence, liked some of the stuff, others not so much.

Headed to see Santana tonight, can’t wait.

Taylor Swift gave out 55 million in bonuses to the folks with her on this tour. 100 grand to truck drivers. How the fuck much money did her tour gross?

Probably late to the party but The Sheepdogs started showing up on a Pandora station I have. From Canada and formed in like 2004 but could easily be mistaken for a band straight out of Georgia in the 1970s. Good southern rock feel to them. Claim Allman Bros, CCR, CSNY, Zeppelin, and Stevie Wonder as influences of their style.

Also new Wilco album coming out Sept 29 so excited for that. Seeing them in Salt Lake in October (will be my 3rd Wilco/Jeff Tweedy show within a year). Really looking forward to hearing new stuff live.
