Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Got my copy of The Replacements' Dead Man's Pop yesterday, a box set based around their Don't Tell a Soul album. Dead Man's Pop was the original working title for that. The original mix of the album as done by producer Matt Wallace, on vinyl and cd, a cd of out-takes and tracks from their initial attempt at recording the album, and a two disc live show from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee June 2, 1989.

Only had time to listen to the vinyl new mix, but dam, this should have been the album they put out, not the glossy pop version that eventually came out. I mean, I still think it's a great album, but this version is even better.

Shirley Manson is definitely the cat's meow.

Now I shall return from 1927.

Shirley? Not my cup of tea. Far from it, actually. Now, Dorothy Martin from Dorothy...now we're talking.

Glad to hear it. When I read the story about the release I knew it was something I’d need to buy.

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

I think you'd really enjoy their album Bleed Like Me. I've recommended it before, and it's really a great album.

I enjoyed it immediately but didn't realize until years later that it would become my favorite record from them. It's held up the best over time.

True story: I bought Garbage in Gatwick on the way to moving to Bahrain. I had just purchased a new Discman and wanted some new CDs for my new home as I traveled very lightly originally.

I made some friends early on after the move, and one of the girls from that group "borrowed" that Garbage CD before embarking on a 20-day work trip. Knowing I wouldn't see that CD again for 3 weeks I decided to try to find and buy another copy. Online shopping was pretty non-existent in 1996 and finding/calling records stores wasn't easy. I think I visited at least a dozen different shops all across the island that day before finally finding a copy.

After moving from a hotel to a new house I held a house-warming party,. That girl brought the CD back but I told her to, "keep it", we hung out spinning CDs during the night and discovered we had a lot of the same musical tastes. However that night I was actually intent on 'hanging out' with one of her best friends who incidentally was dating Chris Isaak at the time. First girl was dating a SEAL and I wasn't about to interfere with that.

Things happened over the next several months and the girl that "borrowed" my CD has been my wife for 22 years as of August. :)

Don't judge.
