Definitely gonna give it a listen based on this NG stuff. Oasis that is.

I'm quite open minded about music typically.

My hatred of Oasis is rooted in a different (music listening) era of my life and other perceptions that were formed off those radio hits and the press that they were getting for being complete twats.

These NG shows have been a revelation for sure.

Always love finding stuff that I've overlooked coz... it's new to me.

That's "twat" that rhymes with "hat" right?

But as far as Britpop bands go, I'll take Ocean Colour Scene anyday. Noel Gallagher would even tell you so. Moseley Shoals. Buy it. Love it.

They're great, but there's a more out there. I really did Bloc Party for instance: Helicopter and Banquet.

I'd also recommend Kaiser Chiefs and Kasabian for starters among perhaps the less obvious known Brit pop artists like Blur, The Verve, Pulp, Supergrass, Elastica, Suede, Ash, Radiohead....

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

Bloc Party to me always sounded like warmed over Gang of Four. But I haven't really heard all that much. Most of those others you listed, I've heard bits from, but none of them ever struck me enough to make me want to hear more.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

I'm a fan of both The Verve and Kasabian.

I don't know the others.

I wasn't listening to a lot of contemporary alternative and/or whatever Brit pop falls into during the heyday.

I was certainly aware of it, but paid it no mind.

EDIT: I actually knew of Blur but didn't like them. Funny coz I loved Gorillaz for a while.

The Cure - Unplugged. I still have this on cassette somewhere in my basement from when I recorded it live from the radio. Are those their outfits from the, "Why Can't I Be You" video? Still one of my favorite bands ever.
Morrissey - Everyday is like Sunday
R.E.M. - Driver 8 . I have this one on VHS somewhere too. :D
The Jam - That's Entertainment
Peter Schilling - Major Tom (No not that Major Tom ;)) and the English version.

The Cure Unplugged is great. Kazoos!!!

I may or may not have a CD of that show (plus some bonus tracks) that was labeled as um, an "import" from a local store. ;)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

I've never heard/seen the Cure unplugged. Have to dig it up sometime.

Been bingeing all week on Noel - I like the music a lot, but the banter is almost as good and I find myself waiting for what he might say next.

Love that dry British sarcasm.

Can't recall too many artists that are this engaged in back and forth with their audience and I listen to a TON of concerts.

Have found maybe 8 shows - still haven't gotten anything officially released.

Anyway, apparently he opened for U2 in Europe this summer which I didn't know coz I was so colossally bored with the J-Tree redux that I didn't follow the tour past the one I saw.

This is a pretty (really) funny report from the summer...

And in a total poseur/noob move - seriously considering grabbing tickets for his show at the Chicago Theater in February. I'm more intrigued by seeing this show than I have been for anything new (to me) in a long time.

Well... Sticky Fingers last year, but they cancelled coz the lead singer is a basket case and apparently a real *****.

Magazine -- Play.

More up-tempo than their usual slow, patient work. Just pure fun.

I swear sometimes I think they're the greatest band of all time.

Kep may remember them, but coming through the Ft. McHenry Tunnel southbound this evening I saw a billboard advertising that Grand Funk Railroad will be at Dover Downs in January (1/19).

Who doesn't know they're an American band?

I saw that same sign yesterday driving back from Ithaca. My first thought was "the railroad museum is making a pun." My second thought was, "holy crap, those guys must be a hundred."

They're getting closer to their home.

Going back this weekend? It's a shame there will be a -1 in your record come Sunday.
